Marie Forleo’s B-School and Me…

In Weekend Chronicles on February 21, 2015 at 11:42 am

Hi Darlings! I have been missing for a few weeks (again!).  Busy creating the life I want.  My life has been one big whirl wind lately, so many fantastic changes happening with me, my company and my brand.  One of the things I’ve done, is to enrolled myself in Marie Forleo’s B-School.  If you haven’t heard of her, you need to go to her site and check her out here.  I learned about Marie from a new business associate I recently met, and this information came into my life right on time.  It’s true that you do meet people who the universe chooses to present to you, in order to bring something extraordinary into your life.

Quick synopsis about Marie Forleo’s B-School; It is an 8 week, interactive video-based training program that teaches smart, effective online marketing strategies to business owners who want more sales and more impact from their online presence.

Marie Forleo’s B-School is about creating the life and business that you really want. It’s a little expensive, but for me, anything that is going to take my business and my life to the next level is worth its weight in gold (plus it’s a tax write off!).  I’ve done my research, and in my opinion, Marie is the real deal.  Registration is going on now, through to March 2, classes start March 9.  In the meantime, Marie has been sending out fantastic videos to us B-School students, to get us started, before class officially begins; I’m so looking forward to this new chapter of my life! I’ll keep you updated on my journey.

On another note; while on Pinterest this morning, these two beautiful quotes really struck me…

Let’s Dance To A New Week…

In Daily Musings on December 3, 2012 at 9:35 am

Let's Dance

Let’s dance because this is a brand new week; new beginnings, new experiences! After an insanely crazy, stressful and mind-blowing week last week, I’m ready to start this week off on a beautiful high and positive note.

I’m really excited about this week, my sister who is in charge of inventory, and who has been procuring some beautiful items in London for the Maylana’s Closet boutique, sent over some gorgeous pieces, which will be appearing in the Blog Shop and on www.etsy.com/shop/maylanascloset.  I am looking forward to showing you what she’s found.  I will be spending most of today photographing and getting ready to  upload, so stay tuned.

Speaking of the Blog Shop, I am finally going to open the boutique, which has been on hold for months; watch out for its grand opening of pre-loved, new and vintage items.  All transactions will be handled securely through PayPal.

To get our day started, here’s one of my favourite songs by David Bowie Let’s Dance to get you in the Monday mood.

It’s December 3, which means we are in full-blown holiday shopping mode, exactly 22 days to go!!  Over the coming weeks, I’ll be posting potential gift ideas, from inexpensive to super extravagant {“Maylana’s Dream List“} What’s on your wish list for the holidays?

Thankful

Yes I am!!

Wishing you a Wonderful, Inspiring and Joyful week… Go for yours!!!

Shop Til You Drop & Small Business Saturday…

In Daily Musings on November 23, 2012 at 6:26 pm

Well now that you’re 10 pounds heavier and possibly a few hundred to a thousand dollars lighter, due to Black Friday shopping,  I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving Day; giving thanks for your family, friends and where you are at this time in your life {I hope it’s a good place}.

Personally I don’t get sucked into the Black Friday shopping hype, in my opinion its major publicity in overdrive by the big retailers; I just truly prefer to shop in the comfort of my own home online, or go out to the stores when they first open on a lovely Saturday, and not be crushed in a wave of people pushing and shoving to get that “As Advertised” item.

If you were able to procure that special item you’ve been coveting, good for you, it’s nice when you get that special something for yourself or as a gift for someone else at a really good deal.

Tomorrow, November 24 is Small Business Saturday, and we small businesses count on you, especially at this time of the year.  So before you spend all of your money at the big box and high-end retailers, please give us small fry a thought, the beautiful, handmade, vintage and one of a kind items you can find from us are second to none.  If you have a small business you’d love to promote, either leave the name of your business in the comments section of this blog or leave your info at my Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/maylanascloset.

You can visit my Etsy store at www.etsy.com/shop/maylanascloset ~ I hope to have more new items uploaded by 2pm tomorrow… See you there!

This beautiful twinset will be available tomorrow 11/24 {around noon} in the Maylana’s Closet Etsy store. Brand new from Portobello Road, London

In Daily Musings on September 17, 2012 at 6:50 am

For those of you who have been following me, the event of the season is finally here!  I wrote a post back in May, titled “A Gentleman of Style“, which featured style consultant extraordinaire, James Williams II, who is the President & CEO of Washington, DC’s premier style consulting firm, A Stylish Way of Life.

Mr. Williams is holding his 2nd annual style event, which will feature bespoke tailors, custom shoemakers, jewelry and accessory designers and vendors for both men and women.

At the event, Mr. Williams will be on hand to offer free image and wardrobe consultations.  This elegant style affair, will be held on Friday, September 28, from 5:00 p.m. ~ 10:00 p.m., at the infamous City Club, located at 555 13th Street, NW, Columbia Square, Washington, DC 20004.  DC Fashion bloggers, here is a very chic event, you should not miss.

Mr. James A. Williams II

If you are interested in attending this stylish event, please RSVP to www.jwilliams@aswol.com by Thursday, September 20.  This would also be a great opportunity for me to meet some of my fellow DC bloggers; so, if you plan to attend, once you have sent in your RSVP, please contact me at www.lana@maylana.com.

I’ll see you there!

A Hectic Day…

In Daily Musings on July 3, 2012 at 11:35 am

Today is going to be a really hectic day for me, so unfortunately I have no time to give you a full post.  I’m wrapping up a contract, having a business lunch then moving on to take more photos of my Etsy inventory.  It’s still hot, hot, hot in DC right now; we’re at 89 degrees, which has been the lowest since Friday; but there is an expected high of 97 before day’s end!!!  Apparently more intense heat is on the way.

Enjoy your day, Stay Cool, Stay Chic, Stay Hydrated!

A Flat Out Ballet…

In Daily Musings on May 7, 2012 at 10:24 am

While on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a fellow tweetchic by the name of Dawn Dickson.  I clicked on her feed because I liked the look of her profile pic, in order find out what business she was in.  I found out she was the President & CEO of Flat Out Of Heels.  After clicking on her link I came across her website www.flatoutofheels.com.  Boy was I happy I did.  Here was a company with the most simple of ideas, it made me wonder why this had not been thought of before now (maybe it has, but I’ve never heard of it).  Ms. Dickson decided to create a simple and elegant rollable ballet shoe which you  unroll ~ flatten out ~ step in ~ after your 4″ heels have murdered your poor tootsies to dust.

Here is a shoe you just slip inside your tote bag, or even a decent sized clutch; doesn’t take up much room and you always have a change of shoes no matter where you are.  But wait! It gets better… These gorgeous little shoes are available via vending machines (as well as online).  Image that, a vending machine that dispenses ballet shoes, It’s like grabbing a diet coke at work. GENIUS!!  There you are grooving away or out and about town, being your fabulous self, starting out strong and in full diva mode in your favourite towering 4″ heels, and then 4 hours later you start to feel the pinch and it gets worse and worse and you become a wimp.  Off you hobble to a Flat Out Of Heels vending machine (if you don’t already have a pair to whip out of your bag), insert your credit card and Viola! for $19.99 you’ve just purchased a pair of chic rollable ballet flats in black, red, silver, gold or leopard print.

After you’ve popped your heels in the shoe pouch that’s included, you can continue dancing the night away or go for that 3:00 a.m after the club snack at the diner; you’re so happy your feet aren’t killing you anymore, you celebrate with a vanilla milkshake!  In my opinion $20 bucks is a small price to pay to stop my feet from hurting.   Take them with you travelling, commuting, wear while driving or when you’re just out and about and those high heels are no longer cute.  They also make great bridesmaids gifts.

In the next 24 months these machines will be available in the hottest clubs, hotels and airports, in Vegas, LA, Miami, New York, Atlanta and Chicago with more machines coming to a city near you (Washington, DC please).  If you want instant gratification, go online and order now at: www.flatoutofheels.com (there is a $4.50 shipping charge).  I was so intrigued by these shoes that I decided to write Ms. Dickson an email telling her how much I thought this was an amazing idea and that I would be writing a blog post about these shoes.  Well lo and behold, Dawn wrote me right back, thanking me for my note; and asked me for my info, size, etc. in order to send me a complimentary pair, which I certainly did not expect.  I was so excited, I woke my sister up in London to tell her.

Ms. Dawn Dickson ~ President & CEO ~ Flat Out Of Heels

True to her word, I received my very own pair on Friday.  This is my personal unbiased opinion of the ballet shoes… I LOVE THEM!!  When I put them on… OMG!!! they’re so comfy!  They have an elastic back and they mold to your feet; it’s feels like you’re not wearing anything; yet at the same time your feet feel cocooned!  I could sleep in these.  Those who know me, know if I wasn’t impressed, I would have given the British stiff upper lip,  politely said “thank you” and left it at that.  These beauties really are nice, the quality is impressive for such a small price.

The packaging is an elegant black glossy box with various quotes such as “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” by Marilyn Monroe, or “When my feet hurt I can’t think” by Abraham Lincoln, among others.  Ladies, I know we can certainly relate.  On the inner sole of the shoes is a cute inscription congratulating you on your shoes and to slip then on and go! (to read full message, buy your own shoes!).  What’s also nice is that the black shoe bag is designed in an ingenious way to hold your ballet flats when not in use.  See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUcXg37ImmQ  I for one will be purchasing a couple more pairs.

I’ve got mine! Thanks Dawn!

I’d like to thank Ms. Dawn Dickson for her generosity by sending me a pair of Flat Out of Heels Ballet Shoes in a colour of my choice.  I wish you much success.

Available sizes, small, medium, large, and extra-large.  Get yours! www.flatoutofheels.com

My Closet Door

In Daily Musings on January 6, 2012 at 9:20 am

I’ve decided to paint my closet door. I love this colour, I know you can’t see much of it but it’s beautiful. The colour is a blue/green, I’m going to Home Depot to see if they can match for me.  One of my other projects for 2012 is to get my closet to look just like this on the inside!!

Beautiful colour.
