Your Destiny Reading…

In Daily Chronicles on October 27, 2015 at 12:32 pm

Daily Read, T.D. Jakes, #tdjakes, #inspiration, inspiration, destiny

I simply love books which inspire and motivate.  I’m on a major spiritual journey, and I’m absorbing as much as I can in order to succeed on my path to greatness.  I must be able to help others as well as myself.  Growing and becoming the best woman I can be is a constant and daily goal, I must strive for and be better than I was yesterday.  My current daily read is Destiny Daily Readings, inspirations for Your life’s Journey by T.D. Jakes.

This little gem is a companion to Bishop Jakes new book Destiny, which I will start reading soon.  It’s a book of affirmations, meditations and scripture with suggested action steps on fulfilling your God-given role day by day. It’s definitely food for thought.  If you’re on a spiritual journey like I am, this book is for you. Purchase yours here.

Happy reading.

No Super Bowl XLVIII Here!!!

What I’ll be doing during Super Bowl

I’m really not into the Super Bowl, every news, and talk show program this past week has made a reference or dedicated an entire show to this event. The only thing about the Super Bowl that entertains me, are the commercials, and to see which player is more handsome than the other, for me that’s the full extent of the Super Bowl.  So this evening is going to be a night of pampering, book reading, journal writing, watching Downton Abby and catching up on all those shows that have been sitting in my DVR since last year.

Susie Larson Blessings For The Evening #maylanaschronicles Maylana's Chronicles

I was given a gift at Christmas, of this beautiful little book, which I’m reading right now; it’s Susie Larson’s “Blessing’s for the Evening.  This is such an elegant little book, which is quite heavy for its size, with a beautiful padded cover, complete with gorgeous photography and inspirational quotes to help you wind down your evening on a positive note.  The premise is to read a devotional each night, but it’s so beautifully written,  and feels so lovely in your hands, you can’t help but read a few pages at a time.  You can see Susie’s beautiful quotes on Pinterest.

Blessings for the evening quote

For those of you who are football fans… Enjoy! May your team win! I’ll be sipping a glass of red.

Happy Birthday Zora…

Zora Neale Hurston, #zoranealehurston, Harlem Renaissance #HarlemRenaissance

Today is the birthday of a literary legend, and one of my favourite authors, Zora Neale Hurston.  Born January 7, 1891, Ms. Hurston became one of the leading voices of the Harlem Renaissance, after arriving in New York in 1925, when the Renaissance was at its peak, becoming one of the most widely acclaimed Black authors in America, from the mid twenties to the mid forties.

I have a small collection of Ms. Hurston’s books in my own library, my favourites being, Their Eyes Were Watching God {one of her most popular books}, Dust Tracks On The Road and Wrapped in Rainbows.

In her honor, Google created a Google Doodle to commemorate what would have been her 123rd birthday.

Hi Dahhlings… Here we are again, another Monday, even though it’s trying to snow here, it’s still a beautiful day.  I’m feeling so much better after my sluggish week last week; my body has finally caught up to the Daylight Savings Time change 🙂

I had a great weekend; I created a couple of my flower hats in spring/easter colours, as well as sorting and organizing myself, both mentally and physically.  It was a recalibration of sorts!  I’m still reading “The Secret” which has been a fantastic source of inspiration for me.  As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, this is my second time reading it, which has been much more fulfilling then the first time around.  I’m coming to the end and I plan to re-read it all over again!

Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type

Last week I received my copy of Eat Right 4 Your Type, a book which was first published in 1997 by Dr. Peter J.D’Adamo.  The premise of the book is that due to our individual blood types, there are certain foods which are not conducive to our overall health and well-being.

My sister has been on this lifestyle food plan for approximately 6 years, and it truly has done wonders for her, she is testament to me, that it actually works.

The book explains the reasons why certain foods are not good for us, and guides you through the process of eliminating them.  to learn more, click here.  I’ll keep you up to date on my progress.  Click on the image or red link above to be taken to the Amazon website to order yours.

Have yourselves a Creative, Positive and Amazing week!

Dior Couture with Patrick Demarchelier…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on October 3, 2012 at 10:02 am

Though this book was released back in November 2011 {and I still haven’t purchased my own copy!}, it truly is one of the most gorgeous coffee table books around.  With absolutely stunning images, taken in equally glamorous locations, by renowned fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier; he and the house of Dior have come together to chronicle some of the most beautiful and incredible haute couture.

The book takes us through a gorgeous pictorial voyage, through the history of the house of Dior.  Beginning with Christian Dior, Yves Saint Lauren, Marc Bohan and ending with John Galliano.  I had the chance to browse through this book  earlier this year, and it truly is a stunning piece of art, worthy of any well-dressed coffee table.

This book will definitely go on my 2012 holiday wish list!

Available at Amazon ~ $72.45 ~ Click here

Book Ends…

Explores the fateful decision of Emma Jean Peace to raise her seventh son, Perfect, as the daughter she has always wanted.

Here are a few books I plan to read by the end of the year.  Even though I already have a couple hundred unread books sitting on my living room floor,  I still plan to buy and read these… why?  because they intrigue me and I just love books.  I will always love books with paper pages; as much as I love technology, I have not embraced the NookKindle, iPad method of reading books. Maybe I’m a hoarder of books and haven’t admitted it to myself yet 🙂 Is there a 12 step program?

There is nothing like laying in the bath tub, soaking in lavender scented sea salts, and reading a mesmerizing book.  Somehow an E-book  just doesn’t give me the same sensation.  Maybe one day I’ll embrace the E-book for convenience sake {I really doubt it though}, nevertheless, I’ll never get rid of my hardcover/paperback books. There’s nothing like turning a page!

A couple of these books have been around for a while, languishing on my Amazon wish list, I think it’s time I gave them a home.

Roots of Style is a rare look into the mind, life, and journey of one of our generation’s most coveted fashion designers, Isabel Toledo. ~ Currently Reading

Set in Louisiana in 1828, Martin’s latest novel depicts the psychologically charged relationship between a wealthy white woman and the slave she detests.

This book comprises a portfolio of portraits of over one hundred incredible gowns from the entire era of Christian Dior haute couture.

In The Forty Rules of Love, Elif Shafak has woven a wonderful tale of love and spiritual longing, brilliantly exploring the universal desire for intimacy with another human being, as well as with the divine.

All books are available at www.amazon.com as well as other bookstores. I hope you select one of them; if you do, let me know your thoughts.

Happy Tuesday!

Girl In Translation…

In Daily Musings on February 10, 2012 at 10:23 am

By Jean Kwok This is my fluff piece for today, as I’m on deadline for a project. See you later darlings!

Girl In Translation was a  book I finished last month, and I decided it was good enough to let you know about it.  To me it was a really good book, it had me from the first couple of pages.  It’s more in the chick lit genre, a quick and easy read, but yet will keep you wanting to know what happens next.   The little girl, Kimberly Chang, who is the main character was a very strong individual for her age, and had to learn quickly how to survive, and protect herself and her mother on the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan after they emigrated from Hong Kong to America, while barely speaking english.  No one should live in the circumstances they found themselves in (read the book!).

As for the aunt in the story… I don’t want to spoil it for you, but she was a piece of work! I will say that the story does fast forward very quickly from Kimberly being 16 to an adult and how her life eventually turned out.  I felt it left  out part of her life story.  The adult Kimberly came in the form of an epilogue, but other than that if you’re looking for a quick read, this is it!   Happy Friday… Smooches!

Happy Birthday Alice…

In Daily Musings on February 9, 2012 at 9:56 am

Alice Walker that is! Happy Birthday to the brilliant author who gave us The Colour Purple, The Temple of My Familiar, Meridian, The Chicken Chronicles and many other great literary works. She is best known for her novel “The Colour Purple” which really put her on the map,  and for which she won a Pulitzer Prize.  As you already know, the book was made into a beautiful Oscar nominated (11) movie.

In 2008 Alice walker wrote an open letter to new elected President Barack Obama, Alice Walker addresses the new President as “Brother Obama”.  Read the letter for yourself @ http://www.theroot.com/views/open-letter-barack-obama

Visit Alice Walker’s new website @ http://alicewalkersgarden.com/  to get more information about her.  If you haven’t read The Colour Purple in a long time (or haven’t read it at all), maybe it’s time to read it again, or finally pick it up.  If time is an issue, get some popcorn and a glass of wine, settle on the sofa and watch the movie to celebrate Alice’s birthday.
