Birkenstock Love…

Birkenstocks - Arizona Silver

You’ve just got to love Birkenstocks.  They have been around since the beginning of time. (at least it seems that way, I think Moses was wearing them!) A shoe that most of us would not have been seen dead in 20 years ago, but has now become an iconic style statement for every Stylista worth her salt and a wardrobe staple.

I myself own a couple of pairs, which I bought back in the mid 90’s and early 2000’s, way before they became the trend of 2014.  They are still  going strong today, and are in great condition.  The original Birkenstock, appears to be a shoe, that no matter what you do to them, they still keep going, and the comfort factor cannot be denied.  I think that’s why hippies loved them way back when.

A few companies have jumped on the Birkenstock “style” band wagon, Zara, Target, Steve Madden to name a few, creating their own version of this comfy shoe, but in my opinion, nothing beats the real thing.  Created in 1774, when Louis XVI ascended to the throne of France, a history tidbit that really has nothing to do with this post, but I thought I’d throw it in for good measure!

I don’t think this unlikely style statement is going anywhere any time soon.

A Chic Little Break To Bring You Something More…

In Daily Musings on June 25, 2013 at 8:03 am

HiatusWell Darlings, I’ve decided to take some much-needed, quality time out for myself.  The last few months have been challenging and a major eye opener.  Life has been put into full perspective! The most important thing is, once again,  I’ve learned some truly valuable life lessons, which I know will take me further than I’ve ever been before.

I plan to take the blog “Maylana’s Closet” in a new direction on a self-hosting platform, with exciting content, new layout features, and a slightly different name, a complete revamp.  I plan to keep you in the loop as each change occurs.  I’ve learned in life, if you’re going to do something, do it well!  This new turn will be the next chapter of the Maylana’s Closet’s empire.

I want to thank all of my fabulous followers, who follow me everyday, and the lovely new followers I’ve gained in the last few weeks. I’m truly blessed that you’ve followed and continued to read my published content on a daily basis.  This blog has gone further, then I ever dreamed it would, and I intend to bring you even more.  I plan to return to blogging by the end of the summer, but I’m hoping that before the end of 2013, my new direction and all of its transitions will be fully completed.   Please stay tuned!!

During this fabulous summer we’re about to have, I will continue to publish random posts {as I can never completely stop writing and showing you beautiful things!}, as well as republishing content from my archives; but I do intend to fully relish in this much-needed time off, in order to bring you something EXTRAORDINARY!

Have an amazing time this summer season, lots of sun, lots of cocktails, and of course, lots of gorgeous clothes and shoes!

More importantly…  Do You!

A Stylish Solstice…

White dress

Well it’s finally arrived! As you may already know, today is the summer solstice, marking the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. I must say we’re enjoying a beautiful 80 degrees, with very blue skies, a slight breeze and plenty of sunshine.  We really could not ask for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of the summer season.

From Forty To Ninety…

weather

Degrees that is! Can you believe it’s 90 degrees in DC!! Just last week we were at 45, then we had that gorgeous weekend in the 60’s and now since Monday we’ve been in the 80’s. There’s been no time to prepare, you go to bed with the heat on and wake up and suddenly you need to turn on your ceiling fan or A/C. Does anyone believe in Global Warming?

Last week I became a Lucky Magazine contributor, {see badge at bottom of page} and I received this response from the team at Vince Camuto regarding the blog post I wrote a couple of weeks ago, on these gorgeous blue sandals.

I’d say it made my day!  If you’re interested in becoming a contributor, click here and it’ll take you to their community page. Good luck!

If you’d like to follow me on Twitter, click on the birdie and I’ll follow you back.  See you there!

In the meantime, I’m going to see if I should start pulling out my summer things, or is this a joint hoax between mother nature and that silly groundhog!

Loving Vince Camuto…

Vince Camuto Sandals

I was in Nordstrom on Sunday, having a look around, and I came across these beautiful Vince Camuto sandals.  The colour is an absolutely stunning vivid blue suede, with a snake patterned heel and ankle strap.  I can see this with a little summer dress in white, paired with a yellow clutch {colour blocking at it’s best} and a statement necklace.  At $128, I think they’re nicely priced, for a gorgeous statement sandal.

Roll on Summer!

August, August…

In Daily Musings on August 1, 2012 at 12:27 pm

It’s not very often I write 2 blog posts in one day, but I just had to acknowledge the fact that it’s already August.  Where did July go??? It seems to me that 2012 is going by in a flash.  Wasn’t it just recently we were freezing to death in winter, then we were baking to death a couple of weeks ago; and now we’re already more than half way through the year.  We’re going to blink and it’s going to be Thanksgiving… Wow!

I hope you’re enjoying your summer and still accomplishing your new year’s resolutions… Are they even still in effect; did you create new ones; or abandon them altogether?

Above is the beautiful Joan Smalls, on the cover of the August 2012 issue of Vogue Korea; and below is Julia Stegner on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK, fitting don’t you think?

Happy Wednesday Dahhlings!

A Scorcher!!!

A delicious Pimms Cup

It is absolutely scorching here in DC! We were up to 98 degrees on Wednesday, and yesterday, WeatherBug said we hit 100!!! It’s not cute, because at these temperatures, everything is wilting, including me. It’s a little hard to look chic while melting, unless you’re lounging at the pool at the King & Grove Tides Hotel (one of my favourites) in Miami.  So to keep you cool, here is one of my favourite summer time beverages, which is called a Pimms Cup  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/pimms-cup-recipe/index.html

Also another variation of this recipe, (which is the recipe my sister taught me) is to pour approximately 2 ounces of Pimms No.1 in a tall glass and then fill the rest of the glass with D&G Jamaican Ginger Beer, add a slice of lime and… Cheers!

This is where I need to be ~ the King & Grove Tides Hotel in South Beach, Miami ~ click for details

Stay cool, drinks lots of water and enjoy your Pimms Cup!

Smooches!

Trina At Banana Republic…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on June 8, 2012 at 1:03 pm

The Trina Turk capsule collection for Banana Republic, which was released yesterday, is in my opinion very Miami. Swirls of pinks, purples, blues, greens, and oranges. This colourful collection makes you want to sit fly out to the Caribbean to a swanky hotel and sit in a lounge chair by the infinity pool, while you sip delicately on a Pimms cocktail. Now wouldn’t that be lovely!

My favourites from the collection are a short strapless dress and a one shoulder number, going for approximately $150 and $130 respectively.

Love the one shoulder dress!

Love this dress!

This collection will probably go quickly, so mosey on over to www.bananarepublic.com to buy your little piece of vacation paradise.
