Did you have a beautiful weekend? I know I did. The weather was gorgeous, blue skies and a perfect sun, making everything look golden and happy. I’m only writing this now, because I had a lovely 4 day weekend. I spent some of it with a very good friend of mine. We were out and about shopping at one of our favourite stores, Home Goods. Home Goods is a store, where you go in and you’re never seen again. We actually closed the store (we left at 9:30 p.m.) but what fun we had! Sunday was brunch with a dear friend whom I had not seen in a while.
I posted the photo above of my latest cup and saucer acquisition on my Facebook page and the responses and likes were amazing. What is it about a cup of tea in an elegant china cup? One of my FB friends said that the set reminded her of beautiful sari fabric, which I must say, it does! I’ve been collecting cups and saucers for a number of years now; due to my English upbringing, this was the way we always had tea, I’ve still followed that tradition even after my many years living in the States.

I think tea makes us think of comfort, home, relaxation and just puts us in a positive and tranquil state of mind. Tea lifts your equilibrium. Click here for my favourite tea, this is the brand I grew up with in London. Believe it or not the design and packaging really hasn’t changed that much. It’s nice to have a little piece of home on a daily basis. If you’re interested in the Brits love of tea and how it came to be, click here
I’ll be reviewing the book The Rice Mother in another posting.

Me! Yes Darlings, today is my birthday; I am so thankful and blessed to see another year. It has been an interesting year from 50 to 51, so many lessons learned, so much enlightenment. Many thanks to my UK family, Instagram and Facebook friends who have wished me lovely birthday blessings, I thank you all for sharing my day with me. The best gift today, was being completely snowed in here in DC, therefore, I did not have to go anywhere, so I was nice and cozy at home.
My birthday is actually my personal new year, so goals have been set, prayers have been said, and I’m looking forward to seeing what my 51st year brings. Jill Scott’s Golden video was sent to me as part of a birthday greeting, it sums up the way I’m living my life perfectly!

Well it’s a little late in the day, this post should have gone out first thing, but there were so many distractions. This truly has been a glorious Monday. The clocks went back yesterday at 2:00 a.m., and because my body has not yet adjusted, I was able to wake up at my usual time, which would have been 6:00 a.m. {now 5:00 a.m.} and get an hour and a half of chores/projects completed {except posting this article}, before my true day began.
As much as I dislike driving in the dark at this time of year, I do like the fact that we gained the extra hour, {we’ll be used to it in a few weeks, so it won’t matter}. Sunday was a nice comfortable day of church, lovely people, and great conversation. The day just did not seem to be speeding by as usual, which was nice for a change.
This year appears to be rushing to draw to a close. 2013 has been remarkable and challenging in its own right to say the least. Have you accomplished your goals for this year, or were there a few obstacles? Even if you haven’t accomplished everything you set out to do for this year; do what you can, even it’s just one small thing; it will give you a sense of accomplishment, and maybe create the blueprint for what you’d like to do for the coming new year.
Yesterday, my pastor talked about getting off the couch, and out of our comfort zones. We do the same things over and over and expect different results (duh!) I know there are still areas in my own life, where I really have to get off my comfortable red couch, and start to do some things very differently. I’m in the process of creating my blueprint for my journey through 2014, I hope you’re thinking of creating yours too.
And remember constantly ask yourself…

There’s no time like the present!
Wishing you a fabulously chic week; Blissful Blessings to you♥

Hi Darlings! Aren’t you happy that Monday is here again? It’s a new week to start over, complete what you started last week, to begin anew. Don’t look at Monday as a downer, look at it as a bright and shiny new beginning.
The above photograph was taken by me, of the much underrated Carnation. The Carnation is inexpensive and easy to come by, and is mocked for her cheapness. But one thing about this beautiful flower, is she’s more hearty than the other more expensive flora we like to buy {you can easily get 10 or more days out of her}, available year round, and comes in an array of colours, which compliments any décor. Just because she’s cheap, doesn’t mean she’s not beautiful♥

Happy Monday Guys & Dolls! I hope you had a gorgeous weekend. Once again, we had amazing weather here in DC, but it seems that a lot of people I spoke with had rain. At one point I wondered if I was in the Twilight Zone!
I took a wander around a couple of stores, while I was killing time for my dental appointment on Saturday. If you love the Gap like I do, you’ll love these flat sandals, and dusty pink moccasins, for when you’re running around town, and your 4″ heels just won’t do!
The sandals were $39.99 and the moccasins were on sale for $27.99 which I thought was a great deal. Both items were made from good quality leather, which made them an even better deal.
A new Nordstrom Rack has opened up where Barnes & Noble used to be on 18 & L {miss that store, I love book stores, which are quickly becoming a dying breed}. I loved these Ferragamo sandals, again on the low side, but still very elegant with their ankle strap. Personally, I think ankle straps makes the legs look sexier, whether it’s a flat or high heeled shoe.
These were retailing for $239 down from $450!
When you’re having a red carpet moment, here’s this sequined Bagley Mischka dress {which was quite heavy} retailing on the sale rack for $650 down from $2500 {there were many reductions before the $650 price tag}.

If you’re wondering about the quote above, it’s because I love being different, I love who I am, and would never want to be anyone else. The words above, remind me to always stay true to myself. Today is the start of new beginnings and abundance. Remember… “You are what you think“. Wishing you a Beautiful, Fantastic and Absolutely Positive week!

Happy Monday Luvvies! Isn’t time flying! Already it’s the first week of May; very soon, we’re going to blink and it’ll be Memorial weekend, are you ready? It’s the Spring bank holiday in the UK, so the family back home have the day off {lucky them!}. I hope you had a fabulous weekend.
My weekend was spent donating clothing and thrifting. It was time to clean out my closets, and get rid of things I know I’ll never ever wear again; remember one woman’s cast offs is another women’s treasure. It takes me a really long time to donate my clothes, because I’ve donated items in the past, and then a year later, gone to look for that particular item to style it a certain way, because I was inspired by something I saw in a magazine, only to realize I no longer have it! I did pick up a few goodies, of which, I did not have time to take photos of; I’ll try to post something for you soon. I’m truly addicted to vintage shopping, at least I know, no one else will be wearing what I’ve bought!♥
Wishing you a fantastic week, see you soon!
And remember…

Hello Darlings! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend as I did. You’ll be happy to know that the Maylana’s Closet Blog Shop is finally open! Right now the bangles shown above from my “Touch of India Collection” are available for purchase; there are also a pair of exquisite earrings {seen in 3rd pic below, 5 sets available) also for purchase. There will be more eclectic and beautiful items coming to the Blog Shop very soon. Click on the link above, and let me know what you think. Please bear in mind, it’s still a work in progress.

Part of my weekend was spent pampering myself, so I decided to give myself a pedicure. Color used was Estee Lauder Béte Noire ,{dark purple} with Sally Hansen Diamond Flash Top coat. {Sandals are by Zara, circa 2009} Ladies, pampering yourselves on a regular basis, is conducive to your well-being, it’s a must!♥

I plan to invest in a tripod very soon, so that I can start taking full length self portraits with my Canon T3i; I realize fully now, that as a blogger, a tripod is your best friend! In the meantime my trusty iPhone is going to have to do. Here’s a peek of what I’m wearing today.

On Saturday I decided to represent my 1st adopted home, New York!!! It was where I lived, my first 15 years in the U.S. I truly miss living there, there is nothing else like NYC! {click on the link, to hear my favourite New York song}. So with a pair of scissors, I slashed the neck of this tee-shirt, and I was on my way; having my own personal New York minute. I hope to take a trip there soon, great blogging material there.
I did not get a chance to participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday {I found 1000 other things I needed to do}, but I’m still hoping to bring you some gorgeous photos at a later date.
To round things out, I found this quote on Pinterest and simply love it…

Have yourselves the most fabulous Monday; make sure that YOU make it Amazing!

Wearing a vintage beaded scarf I picked up for $4!!
Also wearing earrings from the Maylana’s Closet “Touch of India Collection” coming soon.
Hello fabulous people. This morning truly looked like spring had finally sprung! After a gorgeous Saturday, a grey and dreary Sunday, today truly is starting out to be absolutely gorgeous. Can we finally exhale our collective breaths that spring has arrived?

I had a terrific weekend, I went scouting for vintage finds, at one of my favourite spots in Maryland, and came across a few goodies. I found this gorgeous brand new sequined French Connection dress, with tags, which retailed last season for $248, selling for under $100,!!! Alas, it was not in the Maylana’s Closet budget!

I also found this gorgeous Liz Claiborne ankle length coat dress for under $5!! I have not been a fan of Liz Claiborne for a number of years now, but this dress was too fantastic to resist. I’m going to wear this unbuttoned up to the thigh with shorts underneath, cinched at the waist with ankle strap flats or high heels depending on my mood, and then paired with a colourful clutch. Very 50’s.
Those of you who follow my blog, know I love Instagram {as well as Pinterest!}; here are some of my weekend images. If you’d like to follow me on IG, you can find me @Maylana.

Hello Dahhlings! The photo above {captured by me on my trusty iPhone}, is what I woke up to this morning. This being the 5th day of spring, the joke is still on us. Though pretty and looking much like a Norman Rockwell painting, this is not what we would normally expect for the last week in March.
I hope you had yourselves a fabulous weekend, and you’re ready and rearing to go for the upcoming week.
Just remember; blue skies are somewhere on the horizon.

Hi Dahhlings… Here we are again, another Monday, even though it’s trying to snow here, it’s still a beautiful day. I’m feeling so much better after my sluggish week last week; my body has finally caught up to the Daylight Savings Time change 🙂
I had a great weekend; I created a couple of my flower hats in spring/easter colours, as well as sorting and organizing myself, both mentally and physically. It was a recalibration of sorts! I’m still reading “The Secret” which has been a fantastic source of inspiration for me. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, this is my second time reading it, which has been much more fulfilling then the first time around. I’m coming to the end and I plan to re-read it all over again!

Last week I received my copy of Eat Right 4 Your Type, a book which was first published in 1997 by Dr. Peter J.D’Adamo. The premise of the book is that due to our individual blood types, there are certain foods which are not conducive to our overall health and well-being.
My sister has been on this lifestyle food plan for approximately 6 years, and it truly has done wonders for her, she is testament to me, that it actually works.
The book explains the reasons why certain foods are not good for us, and guides you through the process of eliminating them. to learn more, click here. I’ll keep you up to date on my progress. Click on the image or red link above to be taken to the Amazon website to order yours.
Have yourselves a Creative, Positive and Amazing week!
