A Date With Sir Elton John…

In Weekend Chronicles on November 17, 2013 at 7:09 pm

Elton John

Hello Darlings! This post is a little late, but as they say, “better late than never!”  On Thursday, I had the pleasure of spending the evening (with a few thousand others) with Sir Elton John.

There are no words to really describe this concert; Elton John at 66 has more energy than I do.  He played his grand piano and sang for 3 hours straight; and at one point got on top of his piano.  His body a little rounder with age, his voice sounding exactly the same as watching him on Top of the Pops, all those years ago, and wearing a fabulous turquoise coat with sequins on the back, and blue sequined shoes.  Elton sang all of his hits live (no mechanics), from the 70’s and 80’s, and a few of his newer ones.  Bennie and The Jets, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle in the Wind, so many songs, too numerous to mention here.

When Elton hit that first piano note of Bennie and the Jets {my absolute favourite} the whole stadium went wild; we knew exactly what song was coming next, and yes he can still hit those high notes!  Elton’s songs reminded me of growing up in London, at about 11 years old and just starting secondary school, sitting at the dining table eating my Corn Flakes before going off to school, in my navy blue school uniform.  He took me back to a time when life was so much simpler.  I sang myself hoarse to most of the songs I remembered, reminiscing about my “tween” self, a term which did not exist in the 70’s

The Verizon center was literally filled to the rafters, it holds approximately 20,000 people, and nearly every seat was filled.  I’ve been to quite a few concerts there, and have never ever seen so many people, even the nose bleed section was filled to capacity.  I don’t think people cared whether they could actually see Elton or not, just to be in the presence of such a great musician and hear the golden oldies was enough.

Elton did me proud!

Have a Gorgeous, Blessed and Positive week.

Another Clinique Story…

In Beauty on November 5, 2013 at 10:42 am

Clinique, Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+, Moisturizing Lotion

I’ve been using Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion {DDML} for approximately 30 years.  I’ve drifted to other brands over the years, Avon’s Anew being one of them, which is a product I actually liked; but I always came back to that yellow lotion in the square bottle. DDML always left my skin feeling wonderful, never greasy, my skin would just drink it in; and for someone who had a true T-Zone, this product just worked for me.  I truly did not think a moisturizer could get any better.

Then… I received a sample of the new and improved Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ {DDML+}, Wow!!! This new and improved version, is, in my opinion amazing!  it actually gives the skin a luminous glow; it hydrates more; there’s something different about the formula, it’s smoother, richer, still, without being greasy; there’s something more, but I can’t quite put my finger on it; as my skin has matured, and become dryer, DDML+  is perfect for me.  What I do know, is that Clinique has managed to improve upon a sure thing.

I worked for Clinique many moons ago, back home in London; who would have thought after all these years, I’d still be touting their products, without having to  wear that white lab coat!

Maylana's Chronicles, Maylana's Closet #maylanaschronicles, #maylanascloset

This post is really late!!  Its been a hectic day, I’m trying to get things off my desk, which seem to be multiplying by the thousands, and at the same time, getting ready to attend a big event tomorrow, which I’ll tell you all about over the weekend, and/or Monday.  Guess which one? All I’ll say is, it’s in New Jersey, all over social media, and will air on Nov. 3, what bigger hint can I give?

Well it’s Fabulous Friday Darlings, the weekend is finally here, and Thank God We’re Fabulous!  It’s gotten really chilly here in DC, and it looks like the golden days of our Indian summer are finally behind us, until next spring.

Have yourselves a totally fabulous, and chic weekend, I’m going to leave with the song I’m listening to right now – Music of Life by Cerrone {I may have already posted this song, many blog posts ago), This song reminds me so much of my home town of London…

Enjoy the music of life, because life is a song worth sing!

Blissful Blessings

A Floetic Night With The Floacist…

In Daily Musings on May 15, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Today I introduce my very first guest writer on Maylana’s Closet.  I am proud to introduce Ms Althea Anderson, who is a prolific writer in her own right.  Ms Anderson hails from East London in England, and is one of the original Sylista’s who ever entered my life, because she is also my big sister.  Below in her own words, Althea describes in beautiful detail, her night at the Jazz Cafè while, attending the performance of The Floacist.

Blog Family, please welcome Ms. Anderson to the blogging stage.

Natalie Stewart ~ Floacist

I have heard it said, that there are angels who walk the earth in the form of man.  The gift they possess, enlightens us on a daily basis; ensuring that we constantly look for the good within, they help us to remember our true purpose on this earth, which is to “Know Thyself” and be all we are supposed to be.  One such angel is called Floacist.

On Sunday 28th April, my sweetheart and I had the pleasure of attending the only concert in London, her first on home soil in 7 years, I might add! For now I will leave you with just one word PHENOMINAL!

Who is she?  A quick induction for you: Originating from South London, singer, songwriter, and poet Natalie Stewart, the original member and founder of the group Floetry, invited her friend Marsha Ambrosius on stage to perform with her.  The combination of poetry and singing was an immediate success, and with that Floetry was born.

A hop skip and jump to the U.S., and two successful albums were released.  “Floetic”  in 2002 and “Flo’Ology” in 2005, both with memorable tracks “Say Yes” and “Supa Star” being the chart toppers. With the parting of ways in 2006, Stewart formed a production company producing successful plays, and threw in some acting of her own.  Metamorphosing into Floacist, with two beautiful albums; “Floetic Soul” in 2010, and “The Floacist Presents – Floetry Re-Birthin 2012. We now fast forward to the Jazz Café in London.

Ladies in heels; guys with beautiful locs, and cameras poised in anticipation; the atmosphere was electric as I gazed around.  Being a scribe myself (I love that description), I was anxious to witness a true priestess in full flow.  A roaring introduction, synchronized with 3 backing singers, bongos, piano and guitar bring her to the stage.  Opening with ‘Children of the Sun’ everyone connects, the journey begins…  “Slow Down” eases us along our way, as we absorb the words of wisdom, and melody…  Everyone starts swaying “doodaadoodaaadaaada…” Speechless!  Fantastic!  Time travelled and 9.15 p.m. turned into 11.00 p.m. Encore!

Floacist’s gift of rhetoric is breath-taking, poetry was created in its purest form, from the soul, blessings were had…  Consider me blessed!

TopShop Does It Again!

Top Shop Jacket

Happy Monday Luvvies! After a glorious sun filled Saturday, we steadily went down hill from there. Today is cloudy and rainy, but nevertheless, it’s an amazing Monday.  My sister scored this gorgeous Asian inspired jacket at TopShop last week.  Nothing beats the original TopShop flagship store in Oxford Street, London.

I remember going to TopShop as a teenager many moons ago, using my well-earned pocket-money to buy the latest trends.  Even now, TopShop is always on my radar when I go back home to London, because I’m sure to find a few pieces of unusual clothing/accessories to bring back.  What I love about TopShop is they do not repeat anything, once it’s gone, it’s gone!

I’ve visited TopShop in NYC , but in my opinion, they’ve been unable to replicate the vibe of the Oxford Street store.  Beautiful clothes though.

I’d love to wish you the most Fabulous and Productive week, see you soon

Happy Easter fabulous Bunnies {I still don’t understand how bunnies and Easter became associated, but I digress!} Wishing you a blessed, light filled and beautiful day.  Above is the ultimate Easter bonnet.  If you’re going to wear one, you may as well do it stylishly.

chocolate-filled-half-egg

Growing up in London, every Easter, my mum used to treat us to these huge milk chocolate eggs, which were filled with more chocolate surprises, and sometimes small toys.  These eggs seem to be very hard to find here in the States, and if you do find them, they’ve been imported from England, and sold at exorbitant prices!

Big sis please ship one to me!!

I couldn’t resist this Easter baby!

I would love to wish all of you, an Amazing, Blessed and Extra Special Easter weekend!

Dahhlings… Finally, here are the photos of my birthday lunch at the Ritz in London.  It was one of the most beautiful experiences; which made my birthday absolutely grand and super special.  Thanks to my wonderful sister, Althea, for her elegant taste in choosing such a wonderful establishment, to celebrate this extra special milestone birthday.

You truly have not experienced fine dining until you have experienced the Ritz in London.  The table service is truly a first class and highly synchronized piece of art, orchestrated by the superb and elegantly attired wait staff.  Today’s post will be a photo blog in the true sense of the word… Enjoy!

A Truly Busy Day…

In Daily Musings on February 5, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Beautiful Hat IIDo you sometimes wish you could clone yourself? Between filling orders, doing taxes, taking photos, uploading photos {and then of course my camera battery died and I didn’t charge the back up!) plus trying to write a draft on my trip to London for this blog, there is just not enough time in the day!

The image above is one of the many photos I’ve taken today, for the Maylana’s Closet Boutique. Being an entrepreneur is extremely rewarding, but there are times when we just need to grow an extra pair of hands.

Excuse me while I try to clone myself! 🙂

Well good morning Dahhlings! I am now back in the States (I returned last Wednesday) and after resting and several days of jet lag, I’m now back to writing on my blog. Even though I’ve though tired, I’ve been busy filling orders for  my crochet hats.  Apparently, there was a huge demand for them while I was away, so my fingers have been very busy.  I’m truly thankful to my customers and that God has blessed me with this talent.

Over the next few days I’ll be posting my birthday and travel photos of my time back home in London.

Until then, have a Fabulous, Amazing and Extraordinary Monday, I look forward to connecting with you soon.

Well it’s nearly time to wind my way back to my residence in the U.S.  Being back home in London has been fantastic! My sister and I have our new business in place and ready to be launched; look out for the upcoming blog post on our new venture, watch out for the beautiful items this new venture is going to bring, plus, I’ll be sharing lovely pics of my time here.

The weather did not cooperate, snow my second day, freezing rain and wind (what can you really expect in January!) but home is home, no matter what the weather brings.  The last couple of days haven’t been bad,the sun even came out for a couple of days (it did come out on my birthday, which was all I cared about!), but I’ve heard it’s been snowing in DC, so I’ve got that to look forward to. 🙂
