A Truly Busy Day…

In Daily Musings on February 5, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Beautiful Hat IIDo you sometimes wish you could clone yourself? Between filling orders, doing taxes, taking photos, uploading photos {and then of course my camera battery died and I didn’t charge the back up!) plus trying to write a draft on my trip to London for this blog, there is just not enough time in the day!

The image above is one of the many photos I’ve taken today, for the Maylana’s Closet Boutique. Being an entrepreneur is extremely rewarding, but there are times when we just need to grow an extra pair of hands.

Excuse me while I try to clone myself! 🙂

Irving Penn, Photographer Extraordinaire…

In Daily Musings on January 11, 2013 at 2:54 pm

irving2.jpg Miles Davis

I’ve always loved the photography of Irving Penn. I love to admire the black and white sharpness of most of his work; the poses of his subjects against a white or grey background. Everything is sharp and angular.  For me, the one of Miles Davis above, captures it all;  the darkness of his skin against the whites of his nails, makes for such a strong and powerful image. Irving Penn was able to capture the heart and soul of this complicated and spirited musician.

You really cannot mistake a Irving Penn photograph for any other. He was one of the top photographers of his time.  Irving Penn photographed his first cover for Vogue magazine in 1943 and continued to work at the magazine throughout his career, shooting covers, portraits, still life, fashion, and photographic essays. Irving Penn passed away in 2009 at the age of 92.

Here is a small collection of some of my favourites.

A Tuxedoed Oprah In Harper’s Bazaar…

In Daily Musings on October 16, 2012 at 8:15 am

In my opinion Oprah is looking pretty fierce in this white tuxedo ensemble. Photographed by Terry Richardson for November’s Harper’s Bazaar; Oprah talks about why it was time after 25 years, to leave her infamous talk show, which touched many people’s lives the world over; and move on to create and run OWN {Oprah Winfrey Network} TV cable channel.

The statement I admire from most people’s favourite billionairess, is “When you have reached the peak of a mountaintop, which is where I was with the Oprah show, you have absolutely no worries. I’d been in the right space at the right time, and I’d done that in the best way possible for 25 years. But you have two choices: You can come down from the mountain and spend the rest of your days thinking it was so beautiful there, or you can create a vision, look upward, see the next mountain, and start the climb all over again.”  My question to you is… Which path would you choose?

Ms. Canon~Belle Has Arrived…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on August 24, 2012 at 10:33 am

I waited for 48 hours and she finally arrived! Yes my Canon EOS Rebel T3i camera arrived yesterday, and I am beyond Ecstatic.  And yes, I’ve decided my camera is a girl!

I’ve been wanting a grown up camera for a while now; there was only so much my trusty iPhone 4 camera could do {even with the fantastic editing apps, which I’ll continue to use}.  I also had a Olympus digital camera, my sister gifted to me years ago, which also did the trick; but it really was time to start playing with the big girls and boys (or at least in the sandbox with the other newbies).

After reviewing this baby to death, comparison shopping, and reading everything I possibly could about this camera, I finally made the leap on Tuesday; and now it’s here. 🙂

Now if I only knew how to use it!

Have a fantastic weekend Dahhlings, you know what I’ll be doing.
