A Relaxing Sunday…

In Weekend Chronicles on November 1, 2015 at 2:30 pm

Blog Post - November 1

Hopefully you’ve remembered to “fall backwards” in other words, set your clocks and multiple devices back one hour and gotten that much-needed extra hour in bed.  I’m taking it really easy today, as I’ve set myself some important goals for the coming week.  What goals have you set for yourself this week? Above is a snapshot of how I plan to spend my day. Hopefully this post will inspire you to take a page out of my book and make this day a truly relaxing one, so that you can be totally refreshed for the week ahead.

And remember…

5 Things I’m Loving This June…

In Daily Musings on June 4, 2013 at 2:03 pm

Here are the 5 things I’m loving right now {in no particular order}.

Ilse-de-Boer-by-Tom-Allen-for-UK-Harpers-Bazaar-June-2013-1

Love, love the styling of Ilse de Boer by Cathy Kasterine, for the June 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, UK edition

behind-the-candelabra

BehindTheCandelabra-ScottThorson-Liberace-2-630-jpg_203410

Behind The Candelabra – Starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, directed by Steven Soderbergh. ~ This movie traces Liberace’s torrid five years with Scott Thorson, from their first hello to their  bittersweet goodbye.  As Mr. Fabulous famously quoted, “Too much of a good thing is wonderful.” And he’s right!  This is a movie I definitely want to see.

capitaljazzfest2013
Capital Jazz Fest, held in Columbia Maryland ~  one big jazz party.  The festival features over 30 national acts on two big stages.  I will be in attendance this on Saturday {weather permitting}.  I hope to have some fabulous photos to show you after the event.  Click on the link to see the amazing line up, Chaka Khan, Robert Glasper, Ledisi, Will Downing, just to name a few.  I’m looking forward to this one.

BasAcc Universal Stylus - Overstock ~ $3.82 on OverstockMy Universal Stylus set, which I just ordered from Overstock.com for only $3.82 {yes you get 10 of them, one for every day of the week and then some!}.  I love the Diva colours.  I need these to use on some of my drawing apps on my iPad {plus they’re great for customers to sign their signatures with, when I make a sale while using my Square credit card reader}.  If you want a bargain, Overstock’s the place to go!

Ghana Must Go

This month, I’m looking forward to purchasing “Ghana Must Go” by Taiye Selasi ~ This riveting book has gotten rave reviews, both in the UK and here in the U.S.  {The following is reproduced from Amazon book description} The central character Kweku Sai is dead. A renowned surgeon and failed husband, he succumbs suddenly at dawn outside his home in suburban Accra. The news of Kweku’s death sends a ripple around the world, bringing together the family he abandoned years before.  A must read if you ask me!

I could quite easily, list 5 more things, but I think this will do for now

Have yourselves a Fabulous Tuesday!

A Tuxedoed Oprah In Harper’s Bazaar…

In Daily Musings on October 16, 2012 at 8:15 am

In my opinion Oprah is looking pretty fierce in this white tuxedo ensemble. Photographed by Terry Richardson for November’s Harper’s Bazaar; Oprah talks about why it was time after 25 years, to leave her infamous talk show, which touched many people’s lives the world over; and move on to create and run OWN {Oprah Winfrey Network} TV cable channel.

The statement I admire from most people’s favourite billionairess, is “When you have reached the peak of a mountaintop, which is where I was with the Oprah show, you have absolutely no worries. I’d been in the right space at the right time, and I’d done that in the best way possible for 25 years. But you have two choices: You can come down from the mountain and spend the rest of your days thinking it was so beautiful there, or you can create a vision, look upward, see the next mountain, and start the climb all over again.”  My question to you is… Which path would you choose?

Has Yours Arrived?

In Daily Musings on August 21, 2012 at 9:32 am

Well my Harper’s Bazaar arrived in the mail yesterday and was not forced into my mail box, but placed nicely on the stairs by Ms. Mail Lady.  I’ve got one more to go (Elle) and then I’ll do my homework to see what trends I’ll incorporate into my wardrobe this season.

I must say the Harper’s Bazaar magazine is less impressive in size then Vogue’s 916 pages; coming in at a wimpy 550 pages, (yes I know Vogue has a gazillion more ads).  I could swear there were more pages in Harper’s last year; although I remember reading somewhere, that all the September issues are 20% bigger this year.   I’ll let it slide though, because Harper’s really is my all time favourite of all the fashion magazines.  What’s yours?

Sunday, Sunday…

Hello Dahhlings… After battling a slight cold, I’m back.  Today I’m relaxing with my must read material, August’s Harper’s Bazaar (yes I’m very behind on this one) and  Vogue’s 916 page September issue {it’ weighs a ton}.   To help me through this strenuous task, I’m sipping on a watermelon mojito.

I discovered this delicious recipe last week via fellow blogger at Keep Calm and Eat On {read post here}.  My mojito has a lot more mint in it, because that’s my taste.  Visit Keep Calm’s blog to see the gorgeous photos she posted and to get the mojito receipe {read her blog while you’re there}, you’ll be glad you did.

I’m now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Harper’s Bazaar and Elle magazine’s huge September issues, which should be forced into my mailbox soon.

BTW ~ I’m loving that Dolce & Gabbana dress (2nd row, left).

August, August…

In Daily Musings on August 1, 2012 at 12:27 pm

It’s not very often I write 2 blog posts in one day, but I just had to acknowledge the fact that it’s already August.  Where did July go??? It seems to me that 2012 is going by in a flash.  Wasn’t it just recently we were freezing to death in winter, then we were baking to death a couple of weeks ago; and now we’re already more than half way through the year.  We’re going to blink and it’s going to be Thanksgiving… Wow!

I hope you’re enjoying your summer and still accomplishing your new year’s resolutions… Are they even still in effect; did you create new ones; or abandon them altogether?

Above is the beautiful Joan Smalls, on the cover of the August 2012 issue of Vogue Korea; and below is Julia Stegner on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK, fitting don’t you think?

Happy Wednesday Dahhlings!

Funky Ruby…

In Daily Musings on April 12, 2012 at 11:04 am

There is an exhibit in the southeast gallery at the Grand Palais in Paris for the photographer Helmut Newton, who is well-known for his sensual and racy photos.  Do you remember a fabulously naked Grace Jones curved around a body builder; the stark contrast in skin tones creating a brain searing image to remember; or a smoking Linda Evangelista standing in the middle of a NYC street, among many others.  A lot of Newtons work appeared in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair and other high-end media.   Well to coincide with this exhibit; the most gorgeous red lipstick has been created, you know I’m in heaven

The lipstick named Funky Ruby by Terry  is only being sold exclusively in the US at Barney’s, and retailing for $49.  A strong red pout always screams “I’m sexy and I’m confident” so, with its elegant casing, scripted monogram and beautiful colour this is the ideal match for a Helmut Newton exhibition; after all the man was all about sexuality in all of its many forms.

I think I’m going to satisfy my red lipstick fetish and order one!

Bazaar’s Here…

In Daily Musings on February 11, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Yes, the redesigned March 2012 issue  was just delivered, with an absolutely stunning cover of Gwyneth Paltrow.  The cover is so stark and crisp, I don’t even want to open it.  The redesign is gorgeous, it’s a little bigger (more square), paper slightly thicker and they’re using a larger font for the masthead, I didn’t think this magazine could get any more fabulous but it has! What’s inside??? Stay tuned and I’ll let you know.  Bazaar is my absolute favourite fashion magazine, then Elle, then Vogue. Being a fashionista/Diva is hard work and requires very intense and important reading.  When you have a Ph.D. in fashion it’s important to keep up!

On a quick note, Barbie‘s wardrobe was celebrated at New York Fashion Week , yes Barbie!  The Mattel marketing machine has really kept this doll going for the last half century and she’s still a best seller today! What else can I say ladies?  Happy Saturday to you!

P.s. Click on the “New York Fashion Week” link to be taken to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week site! Actually click on any of the links in any of my posts to get more tidbits and info, you never know what you might find out!
