Chronicles on Hiatus

Hiatus

Hello darlings!

Today I made the difficult decision to place my blog on hiatus.  My blog is really important to me, but in my opinion, if I can’t dedicate 100% then don’t do it at all.  I have so much going on right now, huge life changes, which just don’t allow me the brain space to  create blog posts, go out and about and take photos or research what I’m writing about, then edit and do all the other wonderful things that we bloggers do to make our blogs exciting and worth reading. Putting my blog on hiatus, allows me to step back, take a deep breath and allow the universe to do what it does best.

2015 has already shaped up to be an interesting year for me, and with so much going on, it’s become overwhelming.  I’m not sure how long I’ll be away, but I’m hoping to return mid August, early September.

From time to time, I may post a quick blog post here and there, but the best way to keep up with me is to follow me @maylana on Instagram, @maylana on Pinterest or @maylanascloset on Twitter.  I promise you, I will eventually write about my travels to Dubai, which was so amazing and I feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to visit such an exotic and at the same time a thoroughly modern country.  I’m looking forward to sharing the wonderful photos and my lovely experience there.  I’m so glad I traveled to Dubai at the beginning of the year, because it may not have happened at all.

Be Creative, Be Peaceful, Be You

See you soon!

Yet out in broad daylight, in plain sight here in America.   Today, February 27, draw a Red “X” on your hand today, to join the End It Movement.  For more information click here

Post your red “X” photo on Instagram, using #enditmovement, share on Facebook, Twitter and all other social media sites.  This madness has to stop!

Loving life in Sepia #maylanascloset #style #chic

Wow!!! I’ve been gone a long time!! (Since June to be exact) but I am back feeling wonderful and truly full of life. This blissful, spiritual, and constantly learning journey I’m on, has been truly amazing, taking the hard lowball hits with the wonderful euphoric highs; I’m glad to be back!!! New Name, New Attitude, New Me!

 New Name

I’ve decided to rename my blog “Maylana’s Chronicles“, which will be more in line with the direction my blog is going in.  Maylana’s Closet will strictly be my boutique where you’ll continue to find beautiful vintage and new items, crochet accessories, and all things beautiful.  Watch out for fabulous new items, showcasing soon! Maylana’s Closet will also remain the name of my Facebook , Twitter and Tumblr pages.

Self Hosting

To take my blog to the next level self hosting is necessary, and coming very soon, so there will be a new blog layout.  I’m really excited about the new look and feel of my online magazine.  I will continue to bring you my interpretation of timeless style, beautiful clothing/accessories, beauty, cool gadgets, great stories, positive affirmations, and a beautiful ray of chic sunshine to bring a sparkle to your day. I truly wanted to start over with the new theme, but there are so many beautiful ones out there, and it was taking too long for me to make a final choice; so watch out for layout change soon.

I will continue to use the url www.maylanascloset.com until the final migration.  For those of you looking for a self hosting platform, my research has shown Blue Host to be one of the best, and is also highly recommended by WordPress.

Thank You

Thanks to all of you who continued to read my blog; read all my older entries from the archives; sent words of encouragement, and truly supported me.  Many thanks to my new followers, who started discovered and started following when I was not blogging on a regular basis {there were quite a few of you); and thanks to those of you who recently recommended my blog to your inner circles and sent out lots of tweets promoting my blog to your own followers, which in turn caused my blog to grow even more… LOVE YOU♥♥  I was really worried about being gone for so long, but due to the fantastic support I was blessed with, I had no need.  I’m honored to be part of the blogging community.

Maylana’s New Anthem

I’m going to leave you with my new anthem… Katy Perry’s Roar! Listen to the words, watch the video carefully, get the message. This song spoke to me, from the moment I heard it, this song is me. Truly an anthem for those of us, moving forward, 4″ heels and all!

Degrees that is! Can you believe it’s 90 degrees in DC!! Just last week we were at 45, then we had that gorgeous weekend in the 60’s and now since Monday we’ve been in the 80’s. There’s been no time to prepare, you go to bed with the heat on and wake up and suddenly you need to turn on your ceiling fan or A/C. Does anyone believe in Global Warming?

Last week I became a Lucky Magazine contributor, {see badge at bottom of page} and I received this response from the team at Vince Camuto regarding the blog post I wrote a couple of weeks ago, on these gorgeous blue sandals.

I’d say it made my day!  If you’re interested in becoming a contributor, click here and it’ll take you to their community page. Good luck!

If you’d like to follow me on Twitter, click on the birdie and I’ll follow you back.  See you there!

In the meantime, I’m going to see if I should start pulling out my summer things, or is this a joint hoax between mother nature and that silly groundhog!

My 200th…

In Daily Musings on September 3, 2012 at 11:43 am

Happy Labor Day to you Dahhlings! I hope you are enjoying your much deserved day off.  For most of us, this is the last holiday until Thanksgiving {not many get Columbus or Veterans Day, unless you work for the Government}, so enjoy it!

Well as you can see from above, this is my 200th post and I’m quite proud of myself.  Blogging has been fantastic for me and to me; therefore, I’ve decided to dedicate this post to say Thank You!  Blogging has allowed me to meet the most wonderful people on WordPress and other sites such as Twitter, BlogTrends and Instagram, to name a few.  I’ve been embraced by bloggers of all genres, large and small, and I appreciate it.

The blogging community as a whole, is like one big creative family constantly supporting each other; I’m happy to be a part of it.  So once again, I’d love to thank you all for following and reading my posts, and I look forward to writing another 200, plus many more in the coming future.

This would be a cool bed to watch all the marathon TV shows, which are being shown today ~ I’m an NCIS fan myself!

A Flat Out Ballet…

In Daily Musings on May 7, 2012 at 10:24 am

While on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a fellow tweetchic by the name of Dawn Dickson.  I clicked on her feed because I liked the look of her profile pic, in order find out what business she was in.  I found out she was the President & CEO of Flat Out Of Heels.  After clicking on her link I came across her website www.flatoutofheels.com.  Boy was I happy I did.  Here was a company with the most simple of ideas, it made me wonder why this had not been thought of before now (maybe it has, but I’ve never heard of it).  Ms. Dickson decided to create a simple and elegant rollable ballet shoe which you  unroll ~ flatten out ~ step in ~ after your 4″ heels have murdered your poor tootsies to dust.

Here is a shoe you just slip inside your tote bag, or even a decent sized clutch; doesn’t take up much room and you always have a change of shoes no matter where you are.  But wait! It gets better… These gorgeous little shoes are available via vending machines (as well as online).  Image that, a vending machine that dispenses ballet shoes, It’s like grabbing a diet coke at work. GENIUS!!  There you are grooving away or out and about town, being your fabulous self, starting out strong and in full diva mode in your favourite towering 4″ heels, and then 4 hours later you start to feel the pinch and it gets worse and worse and you become a wimp.  Off you hobble to a Flat Out Of Heels vending machine (if you don’t already have a pair to whip out of your bag), insert your credit card and Viola! for $19.99 you’ve just purchased a pair of chic rollable ballet flats in black, red, silver, gold or leopard print.

After you’ve popped your heels in the shoe pouch that’s included, you can continue dancing the night away or go for that 3:00 a.m after the club snack at the diner; you’re so happy your feet aren’t killing you anymore, you celebrate with a vanilla milkshake!  In my opinion $20 bucks is a small price to pay to stop my feet from hurting.   Take them with you travelling, commuting, wear while driving or when you’re just out and about and those high heels are no longer cute.  They also make great bridesmaids gifts.

In the next 24 months these machines will be available in the hottest clubs, hotels and airports, in Vegas, LA, Miami, New York, Atlanta and Chicago with more machines coming to a city near you (Washington, DC please).  If you want instant gratification, go online and order now at: www.flatoutofheels.com (there is a $4.50 shipping charge).  I was so intrigued by these shoes that I decided to write Ms. Dickson an email telling her how much I thought this was an amazing idea and that I would be writing a blog post about these shoes.  Well lo and behold, Dawn wrote me right back, thanking me for my note; and asked me for my info, size, etc. in order to send me a complimentary pair, which I certainly did not expect.  I was so excited, I woke my sister up in London to tell her.

Ms. Dawn Dickson ~ President & CEO ~ Flat Out Of Heels

True to her word, I received my very own pair on Friday.  This is my personal unbiased opinion of the ballet shoes… I LOVE THEM!!  When I put them on… OMG!!! they’re so comfy!  They have an elastic back and they mold to your feet; it’s feels like you’re not wearing anything; yet at the same time your feet feel cocooned!  I could sleep in these.  Those who know me, know if I wasn’t impressed, I would have given the British stiff upper lip,  politely said “thank you” and left it at that.  These beauties really are nice, the quality is impressive for such a small price.

The packaging is an elegant black glossy box with various quotes such as “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” by Marilyn Monroe, or “When my feet hurt I can’t think” by Abraham Lincoln, among others.  Ladies, I know we can certainly relate.  On the inner sole of the shoes is a cute inscription congratulating you on your shoes and to slip then on and go! (to read full message, buy your own shoes!).  What’s also nice is that the black shoe bag is designed in an ingenious way to hold your ballet flats when not in use.  See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUcXg37ImmQ  I for one will be purchasing a couple more pairs.

I’ve got mine! Thanks Dawn!

I’d like to thank Ms. Dawn Dickson for her generosity by sending me a pair of Flat Out of Heels Ballet Shoes in a colour of my choice.  I wish you much success.

Available sizes, small, medium, large, and extra-large.  Get yours! www.flatoutofheels.com

The 84th Sparkle Show…

In Daily Musings on February 27, 2012 at 11:40 am

Here are my favourites from last night’s awards…. Enjoy!

Octavia Spencer Winner for "Best supporting actress" wearing Tadashi Shoji

Viola Davis "Best Actress Nominee" in Vera Wang - The red hair and green dress was just gorgeous on her!

This was the dress that did it for me!! Gwyneth Paltrow in Mr. Tom Ford

Ms. Esperanza Spalding's beautiful voice singing "What A Wonderful World" was truly breathtaking. Very talented young lady. The dress she wore on stage was so much nicer, still trying to find pic. Will post if I find it.

UPDATE! - Cannot find full length version of this, but it was a truly beautiful dress. Loving her statement ring!

This is my man right here! I don't know who he was wearing, but he was working it. - FYI: He helped score the telecast

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Couture - This pic does not really do the dress justice, but in my opinion, it was simply stunning

Roony Mara in Givenchy

Sandra's Marchesa dress hit the worst dress list, people on Twitter were evil. I loved this dress. When she walked on stage and you saw the scooped back, I thought it was gorgeous. Not every gown has to show breasts and thighs to be considered Oscar worthy.
