Today is the birthday of a literary legend, and one of my favourite authors, Zora Neale Hurston.  Born January 7, 1891, Ms. Hurston became one of the leading voices of the Harlem Renaissance, after arriving in New York in 1925, when the Renaissance was at its peak, becoming one of the most widely acclaimed Black authors in America, from the mid twenties to the mid forties.

I have a small collection of Ms. Hurston’s books in my own library, my favourites being, Their Eyes Were Watching God {one of her most popular books}, Dust Tracks On The Road and Wrapped in Rainbows.

In her honor, Google created a Google Doodle to commemorate what would have been her 123rd birthday.

Today would have been Ms. Cruz’s 88th birthday, she was nothing but spirited, fabulous and extremely talented!  Born in Havana Cuba in 1925, Celia Cruz rose to international stardom as one of the worlds greatest salsa singers. Google has paid tribute to her today, with their latest Google Doodle, to celebrate her life and her birthday.

Celia Cruz - Fabulous!!

Click here to view a video of Celia, singing one of her most famous songs, Guantanamera!  I love the way she’s dancing… Absolutely love it!
