A Stylish Solstice…

Well it’s finally arrived! As you may already know, today is the summer solstice, marking the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. I must say we’re enjoying a beautiful 80 degrees, with very blue skies, a slight breeze and plenty of sunshine. We really could not ask for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of the summer season.

If I’m looking for words of inspiration and motivation, whether to use in my blog or just as a quick pick me up, I can always look to Pinterest for beautiful wording. There are hundreds of boards with beautiful inspirational messages to inspire and motivate you. Here are just a few of my favourites.

The above collage titled “Love Flow” was created using the Bazaart app, which I wrote about in this post. I found out this morning that Bazaart retweeted it. This is the second time, they’ve retweeted one of my collages {they retweeted my very first collage in the linked blog post}, this was a brilliant start to my day♥

Happy Monday Guys & Dolls! I hope you had a gorgeous weekend. Once again, we had amazing weather here in DC, but it seems that a lot of people I spoke with had rain. At one point I wondered if I was in the Twilight Zone!
I took a wander around a couple of stores, while I was killing time for my dental appointment on Saturday. If you love the Gap like I do, you’ll love these flat sandals, and dusty pink moccasins, for when you’re running around town, and your 4″ heels just won’t do!
The sandals were $39.99 and the moccasins were on sale for $27.99 which I thought was a great deal. Both items were made from good quality leather, which made them an even better deal.
A new Nordstrom Rack has opened up where Barnes & Noble used to be on 18 & L {miss that store, I love book stores, which are quickly becoming a dying breed}. I loved these Ferragamo sandals, again on the low side, but still very elegant with their ankle strap. Personally, I think ankle straps makes the legs look sexier, whether it’s a flat or high heeled shoe.
These were retailing for $239 down from $450!
When you’re having a red carpet moment, here’s this sequined Bagley Mischka dress {which was quite heavy} retailing on the sale rack for $650 down from $2500 {there were many reductions before the $650 price tag}.
If you’re wondering about the quote above, it’s because I love being different, I love who I am, and would never want to be anyone else. The words above, remind me to always stay true to myself. Today is the start of new beginnings and abundance. Remember… “You are what you think“. Wishing you a Beautiful, Fantastic and Absolutely Positive week!

The Word Cute…

Gorgeous… Not cute!
Hello Darlings, I hope you’re keeping cool in the sweltering heat we’re having. We’re actually expecting a huge thunderstorm in Washington, DC, so I hope you have your bottle of wine and some lovely cheese and crackers, while you watch something good on TV or even better, catch up on that book you put down 2 weeks ago {myself included}.
Now… The reason for this post, is I’ve realized I have a major issue with the word CUTE! To me the word “cute” describes, babies, kitten, and puppies. The word cute does not describe a $400 dollar handbag or any beautiful bag for that matter, beautiful shoes or a stunning dress. It amazes me how many people use the word cute to describe anything that is well made and beautiful.
Maybe it’s because I’m older now, so I no longer see beautiful and absolutely gorgeous and unique items as cute {not that I ever really did, as I was taught to know the difference}. It truly irks me when someone comments on something I’m wearing, and they say “that’s really cute!” I tend to look around for the adorable baby when I hear that. I truly appreciate the compliment, but is cute the only word that comes to mind? I do not wear, nor do I own cute things. Is it just me, or is the word CUTE overused in the wrong context? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Monday Musings With A Little Embroidery…

Hello darlings! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine was absolutely gorgeous, fantastic weather, scoops of ice cream, with lots of sun. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Capital Jazz Fest, but I used the time wisely by getting a lot of projects completed, that really did need my immediate attention.
One of the projects I finally completed, was to list this gorgeous hand embroidered military jacket, painstakingly hand sewn by the wonderful Ms. Althea Anderson in London. You may remember Ms. Anderson, who wrote the wonderful guest blog post: “A Floetic Night With Floetry” click here to read her superb account of what must have been a beautiful and enchanting night. As you can see, she is a woman with many talents!

Boss Friday…

Hi Darlings, Happy Friday! This week has seemed exceptionally long to me, but I think it’s because of the short week last week, which also seemed long.
This quote really inspired me today, and as I quoted on my Facebook page,”My crown is straightened! It’s Boss Friday!” because this is how I truly feel today. I hope your gorgeous crown is straightened too, stand tall Darlings.♥
Today is a bit of a dreary day, with lots of rain, due to the hurricane coming up from down south, but it’s needed, so no complaints here. Below is my 2nd creation, using my Bazaart app, I need to start naming my pieces, just in case they make me famous. 🙂

♥ Love, love the styling of Ilse de Boer by Cathy Kasterine, for the June 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, UK edition
♥ Behind The Candelabra – Starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, directed by Steven Soderbergh. ~ This movie traces Liberace’s torrid five years with Scott Thorson, from their first hello to their bittersweet goodbye. As Mr. Fabulous famously quoted, “Too much of a good thing is wonderful.” And he’s right! This is a movie I definitely want to see.
♥ Capital Jazz Fest, held in Columbia Maryland ~ one big jazz party. The festival features over 30 national acts on two big stages. I will be in attendance this on Saturday {weather permitting}. I hope to have some fabulous photos to show you after the event. Click on the link to see the amazing line up, Chaka Khan, Robert Glasper, Ledisi, Will Downing, just to name a few. I’m looking forward to this one.
♥ My Universal Stylus set, which I just ordered from Overstock.com for only $3.82 {yes you get 10 of them, one for every day of the week and then some!}. I love the Diva colours. I need these to use on some of my drawing apps on my iPad {plus they’re great for customers to sign their signatures with, when I make a sale while using my Square credit card reader}. If you want a bargain, Overstock’s the place to go!
This month, I’m looking forward to purchasing “Ghana Must Go” by Taiye Selasi ~ This riveting book has gotten rave reviews, both in the UK and here in the U.S. {The following is reproduced from Amazon book description} The central character Kweku Sai is dead. A renowned surgeon and failed husband, he succumbs suddenly at dawn outside his home in suburban Accra. The news of Kweku’s death sends a ripple around the world, bringing together the family he abandoned years before. A must read if you ask me!

Do You Bazaart?

I must confess, I have an addiction; an addiction to iTunes apps! I have approximately 70+ apps on my iPhone and God knows how many I’ve accumulated on my iPad {and yes I use them all!!} My lastest acquisition is Bazaart. This amazing app works with Pinterest, and allows you to take your images from your various boards, and turn them into beautiful collages. You can snip, move, rotate and more to your creative heart’s desire.
Above is my first foray into creating a collage with this app; I think I’m going to have it blown up, and framed {Ikea does some wonderful frames}. Look out for more of my “works of art” ♥
Let me know what you think, if you download the app, maybe I’ll create a Bazaart gallery to display our collective creativity.
