This Morning I Heard…

In Daily Musings on January 30, 2012 at 10:43 am

About the “Obedient Wives” club in Malaysia, while listening to NPR radio this morning.  Are you serious!! This is yet another misinterpretation of a holy book. A local women’s group is preaching Polygamy and the obedience of wives to their husbands.  Apparently this is a good way to deal with the social issues blighting Malaysia and a way to help cut down on the rising divorce rate in that country.  This story was amazing and entertaining to a degree to listen to, I won’t go too much into the story here, but please take 5 minutes (actually 4:08) to listen to the story on NPR, it’s an interesting listen and will remind us of how fortunate we are in the western world to not be dictated to in this way.  We are free spirited, fabulous, and intelligent woman who are able to excercise our God given freewill.

He’s Back!!!!….

CORRECTION – D’Angelo actually plays London next week.  After a 10 year absence, which included quite a few controversies, very unflattering photos and a whole bunch of other stuff, our guy D’Angelo made a serious comeback in Stockholm Sweden last night and gave them a truly outstanding show.  I know he’s playing in London tomorrow, where I know he’ll be accepted like a long-lost brother.  It’s been 10 long years, with only two albums to keep us company.  This is the man who paved the way for Raheem DeVaugh (love him!), because D’Angelo basically dropped off the face of the earth and the gap had to filled, which Mr. DeVaugh the R&B Rockstar filled very nicely indeed.  The interesting thing now, is will D’Angelo be able to take the crown back which he held very briefly or will they share the spotlight together?  So much time has passed and Raheem has come and taken the world by storm and become very successful in his own right.  In my opinion, there’s room for everyone. Two very talented artists’ taking center stage, only time will tell.  Read the full article posted in today’s Guardian UK. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/jan/27/d-angelo-review I can’t wait for D’Angelo’s show to arrive Stateside. I for one will be there!

The man who stepped into the spotlight.

The Most Beautiful Day…

In Daily Musings on January 22, 2012 at 9:28 pm

Yesterday was one of the most beautiful birthdays ever. From the moment I woke up until I went to bed it was special. The love shown by my personal, Instagram and Facebook friends was amazing!! A woman couldn’t feel more special. The beautiful gifts given to me by people who are very dear to me were lovely, one in particular brought me to tears.  The two divas that came out with me Saturday night and the diva who took me out Friday night… Thank you!  Cadillac Margueritas and Razza Ritas are no joke!  January 21 really was a truly special day.  My personal new year has now begun, it’s going to be a truly magical year.

Etta James… RIP

In Daily Musings on January 20, 2012 at 12:32 pm

Life can be like a song. But even the most beautiful of songs must come to an end.

Etta James, the revered blues and jazz singer whose signature tuneAt Lastushered in the age of Obama and has probably been played at more weddings than the wedding march, died early this morning.  Ms. James would have turned 74 next week “She was a true original who could sing it all”.

Sung one of the most famous & beautiful Songs "At Last"

The Thing About Mad Men…

In Daily Musings on January 17, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Is it’s addictive. I’m only 4 years late to the game, but Mad Men is fantastic!  Why did I not watch it before?? I’ve been catching up on reruns on all 4 seasons leading up to season 5, which starts in March.  It’s on at 6 and 7 a.m. on Sundays on AMC so I have my DVR set.  While I was recouping from my cold I watched 3 weeks worth (DVR is a lovely thing) Life sure was different in the late 50’s, it’s amazing how much smoking people did back then, how you were able to smoke in your office, on the airplane, smoke anywhere you pleased, I found it amazing.   It also reminds me of the sexism  that existed at home in the suburbs at that time, of a life as constricting as the corsets and the pearl chokers.  How far we women have come, As the Virginia Slims ads of the 70’s proclaimed “You’ve come a long way baby”  (please note I am not advocating smoking, I just think this was a cool ad).  Thankfully, today we’re not expected to stay home with our cute aprons on (they were cute though) with our hair immaculately done and tending to the 2.5 kids and stirring dinner on the stove!  That era could not handle the women of today, it would be all out civil war! As well as the acting which is fantastic, you know my focus is on the clothes! The women (as well as the men) got dressed up back then, clothing, no matter what time of the day was extremely important, that’s the only part of that time I’d like to see come back. There are many other things of that era, that I hope we never see again, although some version of it is still here! If you haven’t already, check out the show, I think you’ll like it.

Loving the green dress!!

Nearly There…

In Daily Musings on January 15, 2012 at 11:21 am

Well after 3 days of trying to get a handle on this cold, I’m now about 75% back to normal. I plan to be at 100% by Wednesday. I will not be sick for my birthday (1/21 for those of you who may not know).  To cheer myself up, I decided to see what’s out there in the shoe world and I found these!!!

They appear to be very much in demand, but I’m determined to find a pair.  I also found the lace up version.  They can be found out Urbanoutffiters.com and Solestruck.com The quest is on!!

Love These Boots!!

Oh well…

In Daily Musings on January 13, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Well I’m worse for wear today, this is where I am… in this bottle.  I’m about to move onto the hard stuff which is Mucinex cold & flu which I used a month ago when I was sick (hate this back and forth weather) and it knocked my sinus congestion out! Mucinex rocks!! So to cheer myself up I’m posting Corrine Bailey Rae wearing this beautiful fuschia dress I’m coveting, which will make me think of spring which seems really far away right now.

Beautiful Fuschia Dress... I want this!
