Birkenstock Love…

You’ve just got to love Birkenstocks. They have been around since the beginning of time. (at least it seems that way, I think Moses was wearing them!) A shoe that most of us would not have been seen dead in 20 years ago, but has now become an iconic style statement for every Stylista worth her salt and a wardrobe staple.
I myself own a couple of pairs, which I bought back in the mid 90’s and early 2000’s, way before they became the trend of 2014. They are still going strong today, and are in great condition. The original Birkenstock, appears to be a shoe, that no matter what you do to them, they still keep going, and the comfort factor cannot be denied. I think that’s why hippies loved them way back when.
A few companies have jumped on the Birkenstock “style” band wagon, Zara, Target, Steve Madden to name a few, creating their own version of this comfy shoe, but in my opinion, nothing beats the real thing. Created in 1774, when Louis XVI ascended to the throne of France, a history tidbit that really has nothing to do with this post, but I thought I’d throw it in for good measure!
I don’t think this unlikely style statement is going anywhere any time soon.

Busy Chronicles And Other Musings…

Oh my!!! It’s been a while Darlings! What with my travels to Los Angeles for the BET Awards and BET Experience; and then back and forth to New York and beyond, it certainly has been a busy time in the land of Maylana. Unfortunately this has given me very little time to blog. I hope you are enjoying our foray into summer. It’s been sweltering in DC, it was definitely much cooler and less humid in L.A.
Back to the BET Awards and the BET Experience, which was held at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. The most enjoyable moment for me was the Mary J. Blige concert at the Staples Center, it was definitely the old Mary on stage, singing hits from her earlier albums from the mid 90’s to the 2000’s; which we all sang along to, with gusto at the top of our lungs, until we were hoarse.
With my crazy and unpredictable schedule, I’m not sure when my next blog post will be, but you can keep up with me on Instagram @ “Maylana” which is easier for me, until my schedule becomes a little more predictable. In the meantime, enjoy this gorgeous weather, exercise, eat good clean food, and have yourselves the most wonderful time, and don’t forget to throw in some fun for good measure.

I subscribe to Fancy.com, online and on Instagram, and found this gorgeous piece of mirrored art during my morning scroll this morning. I absolutely love it and know it would look fantastic with my decor at home. Unfortunately, I am not willing to pay $555 for it… Wow! It is a beauty though. Hi Darlings
My posts are a little scant right now, because life is really busy, lots going on, and has also taken an unusual turn, but in the very near future, I will be making important lifestyle changes, where I’ll be able to do exactly what I truly love… “Blog, Style, Vintage™” Stay tuned! Sometimes you take on a project, which in the beginning you thought was going to enhance your life, but instead has caused you to continually turn to God, to help get you through each day! Without going into details, it has yet been another teaching moment to guide me through this exciting, and wonderful, yet complicated journey called life. No matter, what, I am Truly Blessed Beyond Measure!

This weekend in DC was simply glorious!! We truly could not have asked for more, the sky was azure blue, with snow-white clouds and a lovely breeze, even in the high 80’s.
Everywhere I went, everyone just seemed so happy, and there were tons of babies everywhere which is always an adorable sight to see. Church as always was a joy to attend. I truly love this time of year.

Too Late Marimekko…

Well guess who overslept and woke up at a 7:00 a.m. to try to snag that gorgeous Marimekko skirt from Banana Republic, only to find out that the sale was open to card holders (which I’m one) 2 days early, and that it was the first item to go!!!! This is what happens when you have too many things going on at the same time!! I need an assistant… Stat!
I was able to snag the strapless dress, which if I like it, will become my Saturday running errands dress. For all of you who were able to grab the skirt… Congrats!! I do have several skirts in the same style as the Marimekko skirt, so I’m not too crushed about it. Apparently it’s also in stores, but I really don’t have time to run around looking for it.
The 2 days too late skirt!!!

Well Darlings, I for one, cannot wait for the release of the limited edition capsule collection from Banana Republic and Marimekko. Now this is a collaboration I can work with. I will have my Banana card at the ready, especially for the skirt above. I love a full midi skirt with side pockets, which is always a classic and timeless look.
Marimekko’s signature bold prints have graced clothes, fabrics, furniture, and tableware; and now Banana Republic has collaborated with the Finland based brand to come up with what in my opinion, will be a sell out collection {especially that skirt!}.
The two looks below are also on my radar, I’m loving those cropped pants!!
Set your smart phone/tablet a few days ahead, to remind you, the collection debuts in select stores and online May 22.

Sparkle Friday…

Hello Darlings, today is Sparkle Friday. This has been the most challenging week to date, and these shoes, which I found in the back of my closet, just this morning, did the trick. Don’t you just love shopping in your own closet? I have no idea why these shoes got relegated to the back of the closet, but here they are to cheer me up on this beautiful (yet overcast) last day of the week.
