Too Late Marimekko…

In Daily Chronicles, Daily Musings on May 22, 2014 at 3:42 pm

Banana Republic & Marimekko Polka Dot Dress #bananarepublic #shopping, banana republic, Banana Republic & Marimekko, Marimekko Well guess who overslept and woke up at a 7:00 a.m. to try to snag that gorgeous Marimekko skirt from Banana Republic, only to find out that the sale was open to card holders (which I’m one) 2 days early, and that it was the first item to go!!!!  This is what happens when you have too many things going on at the same time!! I need an assistant… Stat!

I was able to snag the strapless dress, which if I like it, will become my Saturday running errands dress.  For all of you who were able to grab the skirt… Congrats!!  I do have several skirts in the same style as the Marimekko skirt, so I’m not too crushed about it.  Apparently it’s also in stores, but I really don’t have time to run around looking for it.

Wednesday With A Swirl…

In Daily Musings on August 22, 2012 at 9:37 am

I was a little hesitant to post this image as I have no idea who designed this stunning creation of a dress.  My sister always advises me, to try to post designer information whenever possible.  If anyone knows who the designer is, please let me know.

The fit; the beading, the swirl of the train, with its Pucciesque print {could it be Pucci?} is in a word… Gorgeous!  The print reminds me of the beautiful latte art some baristas are able to create with steaming milk; a skill in itself, which can take years to master.

For me it truly is, Wednesday with a swirl.

 Happy Wednesday Dahhlings!

Africa In Technicolour…

In Daily Musings on August 14, 2012 at 10:32 am

While perusing for ideas, I came across these gorgeous images relating to fashion, from the African diaspora.  The colours are simply stunning, which causes the images to simply pop from the page.  I’m totally loving the dress above. This couple looks like they just got married at city hall and are now about to paint the town every colour under the sun.

There are many wonderful designers coming out of the African continent, it’s time they had more of a visual presence throughout the fashion industry.

We need more of these fashions readily available to us here in the States.  If you design gorgeous garments, jewelry and/or accessories, please contact me at lana@maylana.com; I’d love to feature you on this blog.  See my blog post “Where Do You Sika” featuring designs by Phyllis Taylor the owner of Sika Designs, who is of Ghanaian descent and is based in London.  Click here.

Kate’s Plates…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 24, 2012 at 9:48 am

I found out about these charming little porcelain tidbit plates by Kate Spade from my Twitter buddy Nigel Isaiah who is a freelance style/fashion writer, who’s always on point with the latest style news.  They are approximately 5.75″ in diameter, so they’re a little steep at $50 for a set of four (nicely gift boxed of course!), but they truly are gorgeous; so I’m still contemplating buying a set.

I can see these little treasures arranged on a etagere; or on your dressing table, holding little trinkets; or even using plate display holders, and showcasing them on your wall.   I wonder if they’ll go on sale? I think I’ll wait and see.  You can find Nigel on Twitter @Nigel_Isaiah.

I just had to post this photo. This is the hand of a friend of mine who had this beautiful henna artwork done for a wedding she attended on Saturday. More pics to come of the bride. I understand her henna work was beyond gorgeous.

Stay tuned.
