Leave Adele Alone…

In Daily Musings on February 10, 2012 at 1:28 pm

I know I said I had a deadline, but this came across one of my news feeds and I  just had to ask…

Why is everyone so pressed regarding Adele’s weight? Is it because she is not the so-called perfect size 0-4? I think she looks beautiful and she knows how to dress herself and look fantastic as well as fabulous.  If she’s happy with how she looks then what’s the problem?  I love this quote from her in an interview with People Magazine “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that“.  Here’s another quote from her which will be in this weeks issue of People “I haven’t felt insecure about my figure.  I wasn’t brought up like that”. My question is… Why does she have to explain herself? I don’t see anyone questioning Giselle about her size (the Brazilian model, married to Tom Brady for those of you who don’t know whom I’m referring to).

I’ve been reading for some time, how she has a beautiful voice, beautiful face, but she needs to lose weight.  Doesn’t that sound like a back-handed compliment to you?? It does to me.  I’ve read some nasty comments on Twitter and other social media sites, from people who I feel have their own personal body issues to deal with.  As far as I’m concerned she’s beautiful, talented, confident, successful, nominated for a Grammy (or Grammies) and… Getting Paid!!! So leave her alone.  Just yesterday Karl Largerfeld gave his 2 cents, saying she had a pretty face, but she’s a “little too fat”! only to have to turn around less than 24 hours later and apologize and tell the world he’s a huge fan. He now says his comment was taken out of context.  Like I said before, leave her alone!  Adele has no desire to be a size zero, so again I say… LEAVE HER ALONE! Love you Adele!

Watch Adele live at the Grammys on Sunday February 12th.  BTW: Click on Adele’s name above (in orange) to see a trailer of her live at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Remember, women are beautiful in all shapes and sizes, it’s all about how you carry yourself, how you feel about yourself, it’s about CONFIDENCE!!! Work it!

A quick capture of Adele  having a little fun! it’s on a repetitive loop, but it’s cute anyway.  http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lz07ksWVri1qfqf4lo5_r2_250.gif

Girl In Translation…

In Daily Musings on February 10, 2012 at 10:23 am

By Jean Kwok This is my fluff piece for today, as I’m on deadline for a project. See you later darlings!

Girl In Translation was a  book I finished last month, and I decided it was good enough to let you know about it.  To me it was a really good book, it had me from the first couple of pages.  It’s more in the chick lit genre, a quick and easy read, but yet will keep you wanting to know what happens next.   The little girl, Kimberly Chang, who is the main character was a very strong individual for her age, and had to learn quickly how to survive, and protect herself and her mother on the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan after they emigrated from Hong Kong to America, while barely speaking english.  No one should live in the circumstances they found themselves in (read the book!).

As for the aunt in the story… I don’t want to spoil it for you, but she was a piece of work! I will say that the story does fast forward very quickly from Kimberly being 16 to an adult and how her life eventually turned out.  I felt it left  out part of her life story.  The adult Kimberly came in the form of an epilogue, but other than that if you’re looking for a quick read, this is it!   Happy Friday… Smooches!
