Wow Darlings, can you believe it’s September?? Where did the summer go? Where did the time go? I feel like everything is moving at warp speed; you can’t even make plans, because before you know it, in the blink of an eye, time has flown by and if you’re not careful, you’re standing where you were in January.
I hope you’ve been able to accomplish whatever it is you’ve set out to do so far, and if you haven’t, don’t be hard on yourselves, starting today is soon enough. For me, one chapter of my life has finally closed and it’s an exhilarating time, new beginnings are here and I’m so looking forward to the future. I’ve got lots in store, and I’m truly excited about things to come, but this time, I’d rather show then tell! It’s time to go BRAND NEW!

Hello Darlings!
In honour of National Lipstick Day 2014, I had to post one of my absolute favourites, which I have posted here before. I absolutely love Tom Ford’s Cherry Lush, which is my all time favourite red to wear, when I’m in the mood.
Another favourite colour of mine is Laura Mercier’s Dusk, which just this second, I’ve found out has been discontinued!! I’ve found it on Fragrance.net (click link above). I must have it! Dusk was the perfect pink, with a mauve hue, when you just needed a little something. I normally layer this colour with Touch (above) by MAC which is also one of my go to nudes.
Whatever colour you decide to wear, pucker up, wear it confidently, and be the amazing Sylista you truly are.

Oh my!!! It’s been a while Darlings! What with my travels to Los Angeles for the BET Awards and BET Experience; and then back and forth to New York and beyond, it certainly has been a busy time in the land of Maylana. Unfortunately this has given me very little time to blog. I hope you are enjoying our foray into summer. It’s been sweltering in DC, it was definitely much cooler and less humid in L.A.
Back to the BET Awards and the BET Experience, which was held at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. The most enjoyable moment for me was the Mary J. Blige concert at the Staples Center, it was definitely the old Mary on stage, singing hits from her earlier albums from the mid 90’s to the 2000’s; which we all sang along to, with gusto at the top of our lungs, until we were hoarse.
With my crazy and unpredictable schedule, I’m not sure when my next blog post will be, but you can keep up with me on Instagram @ “Maylana” which is easier for me, until my schedule becomes a little more predictable. In the meantime, enjoy this gorgeous weather, exercise, eat good clean food, and have yourselves the most wonderful time, and don’t forget to throw in some fun for good measure.

I absolutely love it and know it would look fantastic with my decor at home. Unfortunately, I am not willing to pay $555 for it… Wow! It is a beauty though. Well guess who overslept and woke up at a 7:00 a.m. to try to snag that gorgeous Marimekko skirt from Banana Republic, only to find out that the sale was open to card holders (which I’m one) 2 days early, and that it was the first item to go!!!! This is what happens when you have too many things going on at the same time!! I need an assistant… Stat!
I was able to snag the strapless dress, which if I like it, will become my Saturday running errands dress. For all of you who were able to grab the skirt… Congrats!! I do have several skirts in the same style as the Marimekko skirt, so I’m not too crushed about it. Apparently it’s also in stores, but I really don’t have time to run around looking for it.
The 2 days too late skirt!!!

Well Darlings, I for one, cannot wait for the release of the limited edition capsule collection from Banana Republic and Marimekko. Now this is a collaboration I can work with. I will have my Banana card at the ready, especially for the skirt above. I love a full midi skirt with side pockets, which is always a classic and timeless look.
Marimekko’s signature bold prints have graced clothes, fabrics, furniture, and tableware; and now Banana Republic has collaborated with the Finland based brand to come up with what in my opinion, will be a sell out collection {especially that skirt!}.
The two looks below are also on my radar, I’m loving those cropped pants!!
Set your smart phone/tablet a few days ahead, to remind you, the collection debuts in select stores and online May 22.

As I was perusing Instagram, I noticed that one of my Instafriends, LoveMrs, posted a photo of her post work out song by a British singer named Laura Mvula. I was immediately intrigued, mostly because of the photograph and her hair. After a little research I found out that this young lady has been around for a little while, and was also nominated for two Brit Awards, where have I been?? Ms. Mvula, a native of Birmingham, England, trained at the city’s Conservatoire, which provides professional musician training, for orchestral, jazz and opera performers. Off to iTunes I went, where her album, “Singing To The Moon” was available for $7.99. Her album is very eclectic, with a mix of pop, jazz and creative soul. I’m loving the video for Green Garden. Her voice reminds me a little of the lovely Amy Winehouse, who passed away much too soon. You also hear touches of Nina Simone on “Is There Anybody Out There?” Listen to her voice on Make Me Lovely… This song took my breath away, with it’s sweeping strings and horns… Beautiful! I hear a little bit of Bjork there. I’m also loving Like The Morning Dew, Green Garden, and Diamonds, actually the whole album!!!. This really is an incredible album. Oh my gosh Darlings! It’s been 2 weeks since my last post; life has been busy, busy, busy, with its highs, lows and the in betweens.
Since my last post, one of my all time favourite blogs, Daily Candy closed it’s doors for the last time on April 4. I can’t believe it’s been fourteen years. I remember the day they started, every fashionista worth her salt in New York, made sure she received her Candy emails, which was nothing more than a stylish newsletter at the time. Daily Candy eventually branched out to other cities and countries and a blogging star was truly born.
I loved the artwork of the original illustrator, SuJean Rim, who worked with the site for the first 12 years. She captured the essence of a “Candy” girl.
I was working for a major record label, when Daily Candy made her debut back in the year 2000, bringing back great memories of living in New York City, and striding through Manhattan in 4″ stilettos. Thank you Daily Candy for being one of the original daily blogs (you inspired me, and so many others), thanks for the broad range of new fashion designers, home goods, restaurants, daily deals (they were way ahead of Groupon) and many other niceties, you continuously brought our way.
Thank you for a fabulously chic ride, and for being a true pioneer in the blogasphere!
