In Daily Musings on April 5, 2012 at 10:48 am

On January 5, 2012, I started my blog… Blogging is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but the timing wasn’t right.  I had many lessons to learn beforehand.   I’m a ceative person and I could only give 100% or none at all.  After many personal difficulties and uncertainties, I have risen like the stately phoenix through the ashes and am now spreading my beautiful wings.  The few who know me personally, know exactly why I say that.  To have gone through and come out the other side of my personal trials, only God Himself has caused me to be here today.

I want to thank the people who truly stuck by me, listening to me through my tears, anger and everything in between; who encouraged me and told me I would rise.  I could not have done it without you.

I want to thank those who did not have my best interests at heart, because of you, I learned so much and came out even stronger, again, thank you… Mwah.  After going through the worst, I am able to see the positive and beauty in life and truly embrace it.  Every single day counts!!! As one of my personal tag lines says: Embrace Yourself!

The intention of my blog, is to Uplift, Embrace, Entertain, Educate and Shop (can’t forget shopping!) with style and grace, and hopefully bring sparkling rays of sunshine to your day. Sharing exciting and noteworthy items with you daily is my goal.  This is a place where you’ll always be able to walk away with a little something. It’s about the sisterhood of women, black, white, pink or green, moving forward in their heels or flats; like the divas that you truly are.

Every day at 1pm this quote pops up on my iPhone/iPad: I am bountiful, I am blissful, I am beautiful –  Tell yourself that every day! I have a series of motivational quotes starting at 6 a.m. which pop up throughout the day to remind me of how blessed I am.

I also want to thank my new blog family, experienced and new, especially @thelookbookphilosophy and @beautypulselondon who embraced me early on.  Also thanks to my Instagram and Facebook friends for stopping by daily and supporting me, all of you always giving me words of encouragement.  I can’t thank you all enough for your likes, shares, and comments.  This blog is as much yours as it is mine, that’s why I try to make it as interactive as possible.

Please try to remember, no matter how bad things get… you will come through, you will rise to go unto bigger and better things… I did!

Have God in your life, through Him, all things are possible!!

Much love & light!

Mwah!!

A Very Cherry Body…

In Daily Musings on April 4, 2012 at 10:21 am

Now that the cherry blossom festival is more or less over, and you missed it like I did, you can appease yourself with the Organix Cherry Blossom Rice Milk Cashmere B0dy Creme and Body Wash.  In my opinion, the body creme is one of the most luxurious body lotions for under $10 that I’ve found in a long time.

This lotion gives more expensive body lotions a good run for their money.  What I like about this lotion; is after applying, if you look closely it actually leaves tiny gold sparkles on your skin. I looked quite luminescent if I say so myself.  When it first happened I thought I was seeing things, but no, it really does leave this beautiful light sheen on your skin.

Whether you use both products together or not, your skin feels really hydrated.  This is inexpensive enough to give yourself the daily treat you deserve every day.  The whole Organix hair and body range is fantastic with it’s natural and fruity ingredients.  For my hair I’m using the Macadamia Oil shampoo.

You can pick up the Organix range at most drug or big box stores.

Chloe, Diane & White…

In Daily Musings, Maylana's Dream List on April 3, 2012 at 11:20 am

I just love these Chloe dresses! They look so light and airy and extremely fabulous with their fine accordion pleats.  I think you’d look stylishly cool attending a outdoor summer wedding reception in one of these.  I wonder if Zara or more likely BCBG Max Azaria will recreate a similar dress?  These two among others tend to copy straight from the runway, or maybe it’ll show up next year at the Chloe outlet in Woodbury Commons, NY, that will be the only way I’m getting one.

Diane von Furestenberg S/S 2012

If you’re looking for something nice and crisp to wear while out meeting your best friend for brunch at Bouchon Bakery in New York, one glorious spring Sunday, you can never ever go wrong in this beautiful white Diane Von Furstenberg dress.  Diane’s iconic wrap dresses are forever classic.  Similar styles are available at Zara’s, Topshop, H&M and the like, if you’re trying not to break the bank.

Note: Because I’m not from the U.S., the  whole not wearing white before memorial day doesn’t apply to me,  who created that law?  I’ve read the history, but as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t apply.  Live dangerously, wear white whenever you like!  Always remember, a Diva sets her own rules, she never ever follows!

Take my quick poll and let me know what you think!

Posted by fellow blogger Guro Stuan @ chocolatesandraspberries, I kind of like them. They actually remind me of cartoons! What do you think?

For Prada’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Miuccia designed a collection of shoes inspired by the American Tailfin era (the gloden era of autmobile design). Colours are bold cadillac red and racing green. Flames burst from the back of the shoes as they would from an exhaust pipe. Detailing on the shoes comes from the highly polished chrome metal work, or the shapes of the cars’ tailfins.

Personally I do not like them. I would never in a million years wear these shoes and for a starter, I have no idea HOW I would wear them. With dresses? Jeans? Shorts? No clue. What do you think?

Wear Do You Sika??

In Daily Musings on March 30, 2012 at 10:30 am

#dress #sikadress #african fashion #AfricanFashions #Sika Dress

For my birthday a couple of years ago, my sister Althea, bought me the most gorgeous 1950’s style dress, with an African twist.  Designed by a wonderful designer named Phyllis Taylor in London, who is the owner of a beautiful little shop named Sika Designs in South London.  I have been hooked on Sika dresses ever since, I wish she had a store here (sigh).  Ms. Taylor  who is of Ghanaian heritage creates her designs in London, which are then beautifully constructed with couture worthy stitching in Ghana; using original African fabric.

The Daisy Dress – From the new Labyrinth Collection

Sika dresses are statement pieces onto themselves, with their full skirts and layered petticoats (purchased separately) worn underneath.  A wide sash belt tied into a bow is the finishing touch on most dresses, you can’t help but be noticed.  For me Sika dresses are  “Mad Men” comes to Africa!

While wearing a Sika dress, you look and feel like an exotic, beautifully wrapped gift.  My sister has purchased other items for me from the Sika collection which I love equally; and now that the weather is about to break, look out for that bright spark of African fabric  in sky-high heels walking down the street; that will be me. Say hello if you see me 🙂

I would post a pic of me in my dress, but the quality of the photo once uploaded was blurry and not blog worthy.  I’ll take another pic soon.

The Soul Of London…

In Daily Musings on March 29, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Another extremely busy day today, so here is another short and  sweet post.

To help my busy days go by, I’m always tuned in to The Sound of London Radio (TSOL).  This is my all time favourite music radio station, which is streamed live online. TSOL plays all the old school jams of yester year which I raved and listened to back home in London. I don’t feel so homesick while listening to them.

TSOL plays Lovers Rock (mostly Brits will understand what lover’s rock is; click the link to find out more), old school reggae, soul from the  60’s,80’s up to the present. TSOL plays music which just never gets aired on regular radio.  For me it brings London right into my office/living room/bedroom, wherever I happen to be.

Most of the DJ’s, I either went to school with or lived in my neighborhood. It’s good to see they’ve taken their love of music to the next level.  If you want to hear something different instead of the same five songs you hear every day tune in to TSOL.  You’ll realize the programming for British radio is very different then it is in the states.  You can also listen to them on any Apple or Android product.

Check them out, I think you’ll love them too.  Say hello to everyone in the shoutbox.

Also check them out on Facebook.

Happy listening: http://thesouloflondonradio.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28&Itemid=58

A Touch of Fuchsia…

In Daily Musings on March 28, 2012 at 12:38 pm

I took a stroll yesterday and ended up in Macy’s because I was bored.  This particular Macy’s had a really crappy shoe department, but I spotted these beauties in fuchsia suede by Jessica Simpson; and thought that they were quite nice.  Macy’s really isn’t my store of choice,  the only purpose Macy’s serves  for me is the Clinque counter.  (though depending on which Macy’s you go to outside of New York, you can find some of the more upscale cosmetic and perfume houses, which do interest me.) I’m a huge fan of Clinique‘s Clarifying Lotion #2 and their Dramatically Different Moisturizer, which I’ve been using for over 20 years now.

I’m on deadline for a huge project, so this post is going to be short and sweet. Have a beautiful and blessed Wednesday.

Bye Dahhlings!
