Mind The Gap…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on August 22, 2012 at 9:01 pm

Today I went for my usual biweekly hair cut, and decided to stop in The Gap; I’m glad I did!  I found these cute fuchsia suede flats above for $39.95 and with my 40% off coupon, I got them for a steal.  I was happy as a clam after that!  I’m loving the ad with principal ballet star, Yuan Yuan Tan of the San Francisco Ballet; that’s quite a pose she’s striking there.

How will I wear these shoes: probably with black skinny cropped trousers and a black fitted tee, with a statement necklace and my trusty Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 bag on my arm.  Let’s keep it simple 🙂

Also, while out and about, I decided to treat myself to some orange dyed sunflowers.  I love sunflowers, they just make a room all chic and cheery.

I swapped vases!

Sunday, Sunday…

Hello Dahhlings… After battling a slight cold, I’m back.  Today I’m relaxing with my must read material, August’s Harper’s Bazaar (yes I’m very behind on this one) and  Vogue’s 916 page September issue {it’ weighs a ton}.   To help me through this strenuous task, I’m sipping on a watermelon mojito.

I discovered this delicious recipe last week via fellow blogger at Keep Calm and Eat On {read post here}.  My mojito has a lot more mint in it, because that’s my taste.  Visit Keep Calm’s blog to see the gorgeous photos she posted and to get the mojito receipe {read her blog while you’re there}, you’ll be glad you did.

I’m now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Harper’s Bazaar and Elle magazine’s huge September issues, which should be forced into my mailbox soon.

BTW ~ I’m loving that Dolce & Gabbana dress (2nd row, left).

If I Were To Do It Again, Part Deux…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on August 15, 2012 at 11:02 am

After I posted this stunning wedding dress last week, I received quite a few questions via email and this blog asking where to find the dress, and were there more photos.  I originally found the dress on Pinterest.  I still believe this is a custom-made dress.

One of my new followers who goes by the name Precious (aka Valerie M-W.), did some very chic sleuthing and found the rest of the gown for me.  I was originally contacted by her friend Soyini G. who is getting married and was hoping to see more photos; well she enlisted Precious and now because of both of them, I am able to show you these beautiful images.  Thank you ladies!

I just discovered this gorgeous Liberty Track Spike trainer (sneaker) via AnOther, which is one of my favourite online magazines.  I love this online publication for its funky vibe, great articles and gorgeous photos.

The collaboration between Nike and Liberty’s of London has produced some unusual and funky combinations. See full article at AnOther here.  I wish they’d also make it as a sneaker, I’d be first in line for this one.  On sale exclusively at Liberty’s Of London £150 {approx. $234)

Liberty’s is one of my favourites stores to visit when I go home to London; to see more of what they have to offer, visit them here: http://www.liberty.co.uk/

They’re Going To be Mine…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on August 3, 2012 at 10:13 am

Just discovered these booties from one of my favourite shoe designers, Jeffrey Campbell.  This cute pair called the Antonio, I would have called them Victoria, or Elizabeth myself, but I digress.

These vintage inspired booties are a beautiful nude colour with gold accents. It’s the gold ornamentation, which really got me; it’s nice to have a bit of flash on your shoes/boots. These will definitely be going on my Autumn/Winter wish list.  Also available in black suede.

Price: $305 ~ Available at Bona Drag  Click Here

Happy Friday Dahhlings!  Have yourselves an extraordinary weekend… Mwah!

I’m Loving…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 26, 2012 at 9:31 am

These Valentino gold heeled Oxfords; from his F/W 2012 collection.  I discovered them yesterday, and immediately fell in Love.  I’m normally a 4″ heel girl, but I think my tastes are changing and I’m becoming a bit more diverse when it comes to my shoes.  The high shine, on these are stunning, but what gets me more is the gold heel. Wow!

How would I wear: a tuxedo jacket with a low-cut close-fitting blouse (or with nothing underneath, but some strategically placed body tape), with either a pair of tuxedo shorts, a long black evening skirt (with a back split), or pair the tuxedo jacket with some really skinny black ankle length cigarette pants (a la Audrey Hepburn), Prada baroque sunglasses, red lipstick, and a little gold beaded clutch!  In my opinion, Tres Chic and very European!

Another idea, how about a crisp white tailored shirt, tucked into a black full length ball gown skirt with in-seam side pockets and a wide patent leather belt (remember you can thrift all of this!).  At $745 these shoes would take some saving up, but a girl can dream can’t she?

If you’re so inclined click here to buy.  If you think they’re too masculine, always remember ladies, a confident Diva can make anything look feminine!

I love my Prada Baroque Sunglasses ~ Best purchase ever!

Kate’s Plates…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 24, 2012 at 9:48 am

I found out about these charming little porcelain tidbit plates by Kate Spade from my Twitter buddy Nigel Isaiah who is a freelance style/fashion writer, who’s always on point with the latest style news.  They are approximately 5.75″ in diameter, so they’re a little steep at $50 for a set of four (nicely gift boxed of course!), but they truly are gorgeous; so I’m still contemplating buying a set.

I can see these little treasures arranged on a etagere; or on your dressing table, holding little trinkets; or even using plate display holders, and showcasing them on your wall.   I wonder if they’ll go on sale? I think I’ll wait and see.  You can find Nigel on Twitter @Nigel_Isaiah.

Find them at Bloomingdale’s ~ Click Here

Book Ends…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 17, 2012 at 11:53 am

Explores the fateful decision of Emma Jean Peace to raise her seventh son, Perfect, as the daughter she has always wanted.

Here are a few books I plan to read by the end of the year.  Even though I already have a couple hundred unread books sitting on my living room floor,  I still plan to buy and read these… why?  because they intrigue me and I just love books.  I will always love books with paper pages; as much as I love technology, I have not embraced the NookKindle, iPad method of reading books. Maybe I’m a hoarder of books and haven’t admitted it to myself yet 🙂 Is there a 12 step program?

There is nothing like laying in the bath tub, soaking in lavender scented sea salts, and reading a mesmerizing book.  Somehow an E-book  just doesn’t give me the same sensation.  Maybe one day I’ll embrace the E-book for convenience sake {I really doubt it though}, nevertheless, I’ll never get rid of my hardcover/paperback books. There’s nothing like turning a page!

A couple of these books have been around for a while, languishing on my Amazon wish list, I think it’s time I gave them a home.

Roots of Style is a rare look into the mind, life, and journey of one of our generation’s most coveted fashion designers, Isabel Toledo. ~ Currently Reading

Set in Louisiana in 1828, Martin’s latest novel depicts the psychologically charged relationship between a wealthy white woman and the slave she detests.

This book comprises a portfolio of portraits of over one hundred incredible gowns from the entire era of Christian Dior haute couture.

In The Forty Rules of Love, Elif Shafak has woven a wonderful tale of love and spiritual longing, brilliantly exploring the universal desire for intimacy with another human being, as well as with the divine.

All books are available at www.amazon.com as well as other bookstores. I hope you select one of them; if you do, let me know your thoughts.

Happy Tuesday!

Boosh…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 10, 2012 at 9:51 am

Update 7.10.12 ~ sweetofstyle  just informed me that she saw the Illamasqua range in Sephora here in the U.S., I’ve just checked and she is absolutely right.  For those of us living in the States, we are also able to get our  Illamasqua Boosh (or other fabulous colour) fix.  Visit a Sephora store or order online. http://www.sephora.com/nail-varnish-P241720

Yesterday, I discovered the most amazing nail polish by a company based in London called Illamasqua.  The colour that drew my attention was this gorgeous glossy black called Boosh {don’t you just love that name?}.  I love black nail polish.  If you want to make a statement, a beautiful high shine black manicure {and/or pedicure} always does the trick.

Go to Illamasqua’s website, the colours available are simply stunning, and come in a spectrum of bold shades with a range of finishes.  Although sold in the UK, there is free shipping to the U.S. with orders over £75  (approx. $116).  My sister is using a colour called Rampage, which is a dark khaki green… Simply Gorgeous! There’s also a huge make-up range which is very popular with my fellow UK  divas.

See more colours here: http://www.illamasqua.com/shop/products/nails/nail-varnishes/boosh-nail-varnish

Happy polishing!

A Stylish Return…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 9, 2012 at 9:30 am

It’s been one busy week! After finishing up a contract, going to lunch meetings to discuss where I’m taking the Maylana’s Closet empire next; taking numerous photos for my Etsy store (still in uploading phase, its never-ending) and then on top of that melting away in 100 degree heat! I think I have good reason to be MIA the last 4 days.  Well I’m back, rejuvenated, creative juices flowing and ready to roll! You may have noticed a few minor changes.  I’ve finally figured out how to add a tag line to my site “Living Out Loud ~ Today and Every Day” It’s a motto I’ve been living by for the last couple of years and it’s served me well.

I’ve also added a Blog Shop page; watch that space {visit it now to see a beautiful outfit from the Alexander McQueen resort collection}; lot’s of beautiful things coming soon. It will be a duplicate of some of my Etsy store listings which contains vintage items, but there will also be new/preloved items which don’t come under “vintage”, Etsy is very specific.  I will also be showcasing huge colourful crochet cowls and hats created by me for Fall/Winter 2012. My About Page has also had minor tweaking.

I was going to write a whole post on my new HP TouchSmart 520-1070 computer, but for brevity, I’m now only going to dedicate a small amount of space to it. Of course that’s my new baby above and below.  All I can say about it is I Love It!!!  It arrived on Friday and I’ve been in love ever since. It has all the bells and whistles, multi-touch screen, wireless mouse and keyboard, 2 TB hard drive, with 8GB of memory; it’s like one giant iPad if I want it to be; and I now feel like I am blogging in true style :-).  As my sister stated, it’s “A sexy bit of kit” what does that mean? well in Brit speak it means it’s a beautiful piece of machinery. It’s black, sexy and chic, like a classic Chanel dress! for more info visit www.shopping.hp.com/

I hope you had a fantastic weekend as I did, even while wilting.  Today I woke up to 72 degrees, though humid, it was a relief!  Let’s hope this cooler spell lasts for a while.

Wishing you all a fabulous, productive and amazing week.
