{From The Archives} 10 Things…

In Daily Musings on May 18, 2012 at 9:17 am

This is a post I wrote back in May.  It’s very timely for me at the moment and I hope it is for you too.  It’s just a gentle reminder that we must always take care of ourselve. “Life Is A Song Worth Singing” This is the title from one of my favourite Teddy Pendergrass albums.  Life truly is worth singing!

Happy Sunday to you… Mwah 🙂

It’s Friday!!!! Time to kick up your heels, and celebrate the weekend.

Here are a 10 things you should do for yourself this weekend.  Pick a few or better yet do them all. You’ve got 2 days!!

  1. Buy yourself some flowers or an orchid plant
  2. Treat yourself to a mani/pedi and if it’s not in the budget do it yourself.
  3. Give yourself a facial, your skin will love you for it. (click link for homemade recipe)
  4. Treat yourself to a quality glass of wine or better yet champagne and if you don’t drink pour some sparkling cider in your best champagne flute and toast yourself for being such a fantastic person.
  5. Go to Barnes & Noble or any bookstore and treat yourself to a good book; here’s one for you, Roots of Style” by Isabel Toledo
  6. Take a walk.  Just walk around the neighbourhood.  2 things will happen here; (a) you’ll get some exercise and (b) you may just notice something you never noticed before.  If you live in a boring neighbourhood, drive/walk somewhere, where there’s scenery and walk there (no excuses).
  7. Buy or download the Anthony Hamilton cd “Back to Love” you’ll be glad you did.
  8. Buy or download the new Estelle cd, “All of Me“, you’ll be glad you did that too.
  9. Instead of having breakfast at home on Sunday, get dressed, find somewhere cute and go out for brunch, let someone else cook for a change
  10. Sunday night take a luxurious bubble bath, with your glass of champagne/sparkling cider, and the book you bought, then relax and think about how wonderful you are, and how much you’re looking forward to the brilliant and blessed week ahead of you.

Have a fabulous weekend Chicas!

A Diva’s Valentine Theme…

In Daily Musings on February 14, 2012 at 9:39 am

I dedicate to all of you single Divas out there, this Valentine’s Day as the official Treat Your Inner Diva Day. whether it’s a mani/pedi, new lingerie, a gorgeous scented candle, a bottle of bubbly or all of the above, celebrate YOU! Don’t let the commercialization of this “pretend” holiday, make you feel less than you are.  Today is a day where some women, may feel a little down because they don’t have anyone “special” in their lives or are looking to someone to make them feel special today and then start an argument when they don’t deliver. DON’T!

Don’t wait for someone else to make you feel worthy, make yourself feel special because you are!  You’re A Diva!  Leave your office/cubicle right now, go to Starbucks and buy that Venti White Chocolate Latte, you never buy because you’re on a never-ending diet, trust me you’ll feel good!

Celebrate your fabulousness, celebrate YOU!  Buy yourself some flowers (although exorbitantly overpriced), better yet buy them tomorrow where they’ll be back to normal prices and everyone one is kicking themselves for buying  a dozen roses for $100 and you only paid $25 at Whole Foods (plus theirs would have started wilting)!  Take a bath, add something nice to it, put on your high heels and something floaty, pour a glass of bubbly, order some take-out, then cue the music (I’m feeling Bruno Mars right now, don’t play anything too sentimental, depression is not the goal here, how about “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan?).  Perch yourself delicately on your sofa, cross your legs and be fabulous in your own living room.  Celebrate the Wonderful, Gorgeous ,God Given YOU!

If you have some girlfriends who are also unattached, get a group together and go and have a cocktail somewhere, make as much noise as possible to interrupt the so-called smoochy lovers (I do not usually advocate being loud, but hey it’s Valentines day, just don’t blame me if you get thrown out!).  Whatever you do, DO NOT sit around feeling sorry for yourself, it’s a commercial holiday, get over it.  The special person in your life is YOU!  And if you do have someone significant, cherish that person every single day, not just today, because you want a gift and a nice meal, so you can brag about it tomorrow.  Make every day  in your relationship a beautiful day, make every day about Love.

Here’s something cute from Googlehttps://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en

Dahhlings… Always Remember, You Are Special!

Here’s a recipe for one of my favourite cocktails, called a  Kir Royale  – a cocktail fit for a Queen… Enjoy!

Champagne * Chambord Liqueur (or if your strapped for cash try Mr. Boston Raspberry liqueur, $6) *  Raspberries, Champagne Flute

Place a Champagne flute in the freezer for 15 minutes. Remove and add 1 tablespoon Chambord to each flute and a few raspberries. Fill each flute to the top with Champagne and serve immediately – Cheers!

Happy Valentines day!

Smooches!

Loving Carol’s Daughter…

In New Loves! on January 31, 2012 at 10:51 am

Ladies, hopefully you are pampering yourselves on a daily basis because you are well deserving.  A product I’ve been using for years is the Carol’s Daughter range of body products.  I remember visiting Carol’s Daughter when Lisa Price had a tiny store on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn (well before the gentrification).  A good friend and I used to make the trek from Long Island to Brooklyn, just to buy her products.  At the time I had locs and used to use her Loc Butter religiously.  I’m proud of Lisa in what she has achieved, from making the products in her kitchen to now being a major player in the beauty arena.  For me as a small business women, she is a good example of what you can accomplish with hard work and determination and showing me, it can be done!  My favourite body treats right now is the Goddess Flower Shea Souffle, just the name alone, makes you feel like royalty (which you are!).  This product is a rich concoction of coconut and grapeseed oils, with Vitamin E thrown in for good measure. I also like the Ecstasy Body Butter and the Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Body Cream, which are both pretty luxurious!  I promise you’ll  fall in love.  http://www.carolsdaughter.com/
