Olympic Face Painting…

In Daily Musings on July 31, 2012 at 9:21 am

As some of you may know I am British (London) of Jamaican extraction.  In honour of the Olympics, I thought it fitting to post this gorgeous image which was posted on my Facebook page yesterday.

It is a beautiful representation of the Jamaican, Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago flags combined.  These teams have been lovingly named Team Caribbean!  This is face painting at its best.

Oh Louie… “An Objects of Desire” Posting

In Daily Musings, Object's of Desire on July 30, 2012 at 9:17 am

Happy Monday Dahhlings… I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I had a headache most of Saturday, but perked up again yesterday.

My sister and I have been discussing our upcoming birthdays, and we’re floating a few ideas around.  There will definitely be travel involved; so for my 2nd Objects of Desire posting, I decided that a full set of Louis Vuitton Luggage would be the perfect post, since we’re discussing travel.  Of course, we’d need our own private G5 plane (You can’t fly commercial with luggage like this!).  Louis Vuitton is one of the most timeless and classic luxury brands around.  The company has been in existence since 1854.

Mr. Vuitton was first commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte’s wife as her personal box-maker and packer in 1852.  The signature monogram canvas above, was launched by Louis Vuitton’s son Georges Vuitton in 1896.

For those of you not familiar with my Objects of Desire postings, I started this series about a month ago, to be posted at the end of each month.  It’s my way of expressing to you, all of the extravagant things I would buy if money were no object (Hey a girl can dream can’t she!).  Now… where shall we go?

Wishing you the most amazing, extraordinary and fabulous week.

I’m Loving…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 26, 2012 at 9:31 am

These Valentino gold heeled Oxfords; from his F/W 2012 collection.  I discovered them yesterday, and immediately fell in Love.  I’m normally a 4″ heel girl, but I think my tastes are changing and I’m becoming a bit more diverse when it comes to my shoes.  The high shine, on these are stunning, but what gets me more is the gold heel. Wow!

How would I wear: a tuxedo jacket with a low-cut close-fitting blouse (or with nothing underneath, but some strategically placed body tape), with either a pair of tuxedo shorts, a long black evening skirt (with a back split), or pair the tuxedo jacket with some really skinny black ankle length cigarette pants (a la Audrey Hepburn), Prada baroque sunglasses, red lipstick, and a little gold beaded clutch!  In my opinion, Tres Chic and very European!

Another idea, how about a crisp white tailored shirt, tucked into a black full length ball gown skirt with in-seam side pockets and a wide patent leather belt (remember you can thrift all of this!).  At $745 these shoes would take some saving up, but a girl can dream can’t she?

If you’re so inclined click here to buy.  If you think they’re too masculine, always remember ladies, a confident Diva can make anything look feminine!

I love my Prada Baroque Sunglasses ~ Best purchase ever!

Beautiful lingerie images from fellow blogger Fashion & Style Guru. Like I’ve said before, this is what real lingerie is all about!

The Sixties weren’t just revolutionary and cheeky, they also changed fashion having convinced fashionistas that elegance can collaborate with a bit of carelessness. The fabrics as light as a feather, pastel colours, feminity – that’s what La Perla adopted from the Sixties for its SS 2012 Lingerie Collection.

Kate’s Plates…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 24, 2012 at 9:48 am

I found out about these charming little porcelain tidbit plates by Kate Spade from my Twitter buddy Nigel Isaiah who is a freelance style/fashion writer, who’s always on point with the latest style news.  They are approximately 5.75″ in diameter, so they’re a little steep at $50 for a set of four (nicely gift boxed of course!), but they truly are gorgeous; so I’m still contemplating buying a set.

I can see these little treasures arranged on a etagere; or on your dressing table, holding little trinkets; or even using plate display holders, and showcasing them on your wall.   I wonder if they’ll go on sale? I think I’ll wait and see.  You can find Nigel on Twitter @Nigel_Isaiah.

Find them at Bloomingdale’s ~ Click Here

Monday Musings…

In Daily Musings on July 23, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Hello dahhlings, I hope you had a wonderful weekend like I did.  I attended a wonderful brunch, which was topped off by going to a drag show!  Oh My… those guys are amazing, the make up, the hair and the gowns! Stunning!! I did take pics, but they came out so dark, they weren’t blog worthy.  It was a spur of the moment thing, so hopefully the next time I go I’ll take some better shots to show you.

As reminder…

You really should! There’s no time like the present.  What are you waiting for?

It’s going to be another light week of posts, but again I’ll always try to bring you a little something.  Summer is going by really quickly; can you believe the end of July is next week!

Wishing you a wonderful, amazing and fabulous week.  Take heed of both quotes above; remember you’re beautiful, live life to the fullest, and always continue to… Evolve and Embrace Yourself!

A Rather Mint Friday….

In Daily Musings on July 20, 2012 at 9:30 am

My “Seeing Red” post {https://maylanascloset.com/2012/07/11/seeing-red/} went rather well (thanks everyone :-)), so I decided to showcase another colour that I love.  Here are my mint favourites. Enjoy!

Mint Fascinator and mint pleated dress, paired with a gorgeous olive Celine Trapeze bag (oh how I want that bag!) is a beautiful combination.

Mint crystal pleated dress, how it flows!

It has mint in it! Isn’t it gorgeous ~ The Deloris Petunia Cuff http://www.etsy.com/listing/64134075/custom-diamonds-are-a-girls-best  ~ Watch out for a future blog post ~Absolutely Gorgeous jewelry

I’m not sure what I love more, her funky afro or her mint coloured Mongolian fur jacket!

Simply Gorgeous! This is what you should wear while preparing yourself a little snack!

Do you see those mint crochet shorts?  ~ I could crochet my own pair! I’m also loving that ring with the ocean blue nail polish

There’s mint in here too! Limited edition Style Icon Tribal Skirt (UK) £29 ~ http://www.styleiconscloset.com/product/african-tribal-print-skirt

For me the styling of this shot is simply stunning!!!

Tranquility!

A Shabby Chic Vanity ~ A must!

…And to top it all off you must have a mint cream cupcake!

…Or would you rather mint/chocolate chip ice-cream?

My week has been really busy, but I’ve tried to continue to post beautiful things for you.  The past week is my idea of sparse posts, lots of gorgeous pictures with a little editorial.  I’m hoping to be back to full editoral content soon. Have a wonderful Friday, and have yourselves the most amazing, fun-filled {and cool} weekend!

Today’s Man…

In Daily Musings on July 18, 2012 at 1:07 pm

I’ve been meaning to create a post consisting of stylish men, who’ve embraced their own unique style.   Here are a few looks I admire…

Don’t you just love the simple casual elegance of this look?

The costume designer for the USA series “Suits” certainly knows how to dress Gabriel Macht, Every week he is a true vision to behold in his bespoke suits.

Yasiin Dante Smith Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) has truly evolved from conscious rapper, to actor to man of unique style.

Evening Suited & Booted ~ My UK followers will understand this term 🙂

Mr. Marc Jacobs, a true visionary! No matter what he touches, it’s always magic!

Three very stylish and chic gentlemen

Mr. Jon Hamm himself!

Impeccable mature style!

I will definitely create another “Today’s Man” article; there are so many gorgeous images out there, I couldn’t fit them all into one post.  There are some gorgeously dressed gentlemen out there.

Have an amazing Wednesday Dahhlings!

Book Ends…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 17, 2012 at 11:53 am

Explores the fateful decision of Emma Jean Peace to raise her seventh son, Perfect, as the daughter she has always wanted.

Here are a few books I plan to read by the end of the year.  Even though I already have a couple hundred unread books sitting on my living room floor,  I still plan to buy and read these… why?  because they intrigue me and I just love books.  I will always love books with paper pages; as much as I love technology, I have not embraced the NookKindle, iPad method of reading books. Maybe I’m a hoarder of books and haven’t admitted it to myself yet 🙂 Is there a 12 step program?

There is nothing like laying in the bath tub, soaking in lavender scented sea salts, and reading a mesmerizing book.  Somehow an E-book  just doesn’t give me the same sensation.  Maybe one day I’ll embrace the E-book for convenience sake {I really doubt it though}, nevertheless, I’ll never get rid of my hardcover/paperback books. There’s nothing like turning a page!

A couple of these books have been around for a while, languishing on my Amazon wish list, I think it’s time I gave them a home.

Roots of Style is a rare look into the mind, life, and journey of one of our generation’s most coveted fashion designers, Isabel Toledo. ~ Currently Reading

Set in Louisiana in 1828, Martin’s latest novel depicts the psychologically charged relationship between a wealthy white woman and the slave she detests.

This book comprises a portfolio of portraits of over one hundred incredible gowns from the entire era of Christian Dior haute couture.

In The Forty Rules of Love, Elif Shafak has woven a wonderful tale of love and spiritual longing, brilliantly exploring the universal desire for intimacy with another human being, as well as with the divine.

All books are available at www.amazon.com as well as other bookstores. I hope you select one of them; if you do, let me know your thoughts.

Happy Tuesday!

A Triumphant Monday…

In Daily Musings on July 16, 2012 at 9:27 am

Happy Monday Dahhlings! I hope you had a pleasant and fun-filled weekend.  Did you accomplish everything you set out to do?  I hope you did. My weekend was once again extremely busy, this time with paperwork, receipts and all the little things you have to do to keep your business running smoothly. Isn’t the quote above fitting? I love it!

This upcoming week is also going to be very hectic for me, so I apologize in advance if my posts are a bit sparse.  One thing you can be sure of, I will try to post stimulating visuals and inspirational/motivational quotes as often as I can until my schedule calms down.

In the meantime remember to…

Here’s my song of the day: Sister Sledge ~ Easier To Love ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abG2M3xi0dE

Have yourselves a stylishly chic, victorious and amazing Monday!
