It’s A Lovely Wednesday…

In Daily Musings on February 27, 2013 at 11:24 am

Tulips!

It’s a beautiful Wednesday, here in Washington, DC.  The sun is shining brightly and we’re expecting a whopping 60 degrees today.  After a couple of days of rain and dreariness, it’s nice to see the sunshine.  Unfortunately, we’re expecting rain again tomorrow, but it’s February, so really, what can we truly expect?  Let’s enjoy it while we can.

In the meantime, enjoy the image of these beautiful tulips ,which are on sale at FTD, 30 stems for $39.99, with overnight FedEx/UPS delivery ~ Go ahead and treat yourself and bring a touch of spring into your home.

Happy Wednesday to you!

Yellow Truly Becomes Solange…

In Daily Musings on February 25, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Solange Knowles

Solange’s sunshine yellow dress, which she wore to last night’s Vanity Fair’s Oscars after party, inspired me to write this quick post, featuring a few of the elegant yellow gowns she has been featured wearing.

Yellow appears to be one of her favourite colours and truly becomes her.  With her everyday, funky Boho Chic style, which I love, Solange truly knows how to really dress up when it’s called for.  Ms. Knowles knows what works for her, and pulls it off effortlessly every time.

And The Oscar Goes To…

In Daily Musings on February 25, 2013 at 10:35 am

Robin 2

Robin Roberts

Happy Monday Dahhlings!  Here are my personal highlights from last nights Academy Awards Ceremony.

I loved, loved Robin Robert’s dress, the stunning blue, which absolutely complimented her skin tone, and the ethereal glow, which I felt surrounded her.  Robin looked truly beautiful.  After everything she has been through with her health in the past year, she has shown that you truly can get through anything, and come out the other side… Shining!

Shirley Bassey

My heart swelled with pride when fellow Brit, Dame Shirley Bassey, graced the stage with one of her most famous songs “Gold Finger” from the James Bond movie of the same name, starring Sean Connery, released back in 1964.  Dame Shirley looked as fabulous tonight at 76 as she did back them, her pipes still as strong as ever.  Ms. Bassey received a standing ovation, which was richly deserved.

Charlize Theron

Another highlight for me was Ms. Charlize Thereon, with her short pixie haircut {channeling Mia Farrow} and elegant white Dior gown. To me she look graceful, chic and all around beautiful.  I think short hair becomes her.

Jennifer Hudson

And of course there was Ms. Jennifer Hudson with the Dream Girls classic “You’re Gonna Love Me“.  As always, Ms. Hudson sung with everything she had, to full effect.  I’m still amazed that this young woman did not win American Idol in the year she participated.  The good thing is, this was her springboard to fame and ultimately an Academy Award her first time out.

adele-skyfall-oscars-2013-

Adele belted out the theme song from “Skyfall”, scoring an Oscar for best original song while she was at it.  My other fellow Brit looked beautiful, her make up, immaculate as always.  I love Adele, she is such a down to earth Londoner, no airs and graces, what you see is what you get.

barbra-streisand

Last but not least, the incomparable Ms. Barbara Streisand sang the beautiful song “The Way We Were”  in memory of those who passed away within the film industry last year.  That particular song always moves me.

I thought I’d finished editing this post last night, when who should appear on my TV screen, but FLOTUS herself, making a surprise appearance looking stunning as always to help present the best picture award with Jack Nicolson. The woman is simply gorgeous!

These were my personal highlights of the evening.  Have yourselves a Beautiful, Fabulous and Amazing Monday… See you on the other side, and remember to…

Love yourself again

Happy Birthday Ms. Nina Simone!

In Daily Musings on February 21, 2013 at 6:15 pm

Nina Simone

Happy birthday to one of the most extraordinary artists of the 20th century.  Known as a renaissance woman and musical storyteller, Nina injected her classical background into her music, and was well known for her lyrics, of love and love lost, she also touched a great deal upon the civil rights era of being black in America in the 50’s and 60’s.

Nina wore the title of High Priestess of Soul; if you’re familiar with her music, you know why she deserved such a noble title.  Ms. Simone would have been 80 today.  Happy Birthday to one of the Original Queens of Soul.

It was hard to choose which of her songs to post, so here is one of my favourites “I Put A Spell On You

A Very Chilly Wednesday…

Mink Coat

It is truly a chilly day here in Washington, DC, but the sun is shining brightly, and all is right with the world.  I hope you’re having an amazing day and that your day is being productive and successful.  My posts have been a little sparse lately because I’ve got so much on my plate, but I promise to start getting my thrice weekly posts back on track.

Calvin Klein Boots 2013

Speaking of chilly weather, I’m in love with these Calvin Klein boots from his A/W 2013 collection.  These are the boots to wear when you’re not in the mood for your 4″ wonders, and need to move about town quickly! I love the square-toed platform and 2″ stacked heel.  These are a pair to watch.

Well Dahhlings, we’re half way through this short week, be good to yourselves and stay inspired.  Here’s a quote for your day, “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong” ~ Joseph Chilton Pearce.  I’ll see you soon.

Monday Musings…

China Tea Cups

Hello Dahhlings! I hope you had a fabulous weekend, I know I certainly did. What’s made it even more so, is today is a  holiday in the U.S., so we have one more day to relax and take it easy (kind of!).  Most of my weekend was spent Skyping with my sister in London, discussing where we’re taking our company and searching for all the goodies we plan to present to you soon.  Isn’t Skype the most amazing thing! I absolutely love it.

The Secret

I’m in a really great place in my life, I feel like I’m going through a transition which has nothing but positive vibes attached to it.  I’ve decided to reread the book “The Secret” which I bought back in 2007, for some reason the book is having more of an impact on me now, than it did when I first read it.  I think I’m more mentally and spiritually ready for it now.  If you are not familiar with “The Secret” it discusses the Law of Attraction and how to bring what it is you truly seek into your life. We are what we think! If you’d like to learn more about “The Secret” click here.

What books are you reading right now, to help motivate and inspire you? I’d love to know.

Maylana

I love taking self photos with my iPhone, mostly to post to my Instagram, Facebook and Tumbler accounts.  Here’s a collage I created on Saturday, showcasing a beautiful dress my sister gave me for my birthday, and some indian earrings I acquired while there.

This week will be yet another busy week, more hat orders to complete, baby wear being completed {by the wonderful Althea}, and buying and cataloguing inventory for the Maylana’s Closet Boutique.  I’m happy to say I love being this kind of busy.

Have yourselves the most Amazing, Inspired and Fabulous week!

Love Always…

Valentine's Day

The ubiquitous allocated day of “Love” is upon us once again. Whether you believe it’s one of the most commercialized holidays, selling flowers and gourmet chocolates at over inflated premium prices, or you’re a die hard romantic, who truly believes in “Valentine’s Day” either way, there is no way to miss it.

Whether you have a significant other or not, enjoy the day, but more importantly, LOVE yourself!  Today, celebrate how much YOU’VE grown over the past year, LOVE YOURSELF for that.  Celebrate how much YOU’VE accomplished, love yourself for that too.

Even if you do have a significant other to bring you flowers, go out and buy yourself a bunch just because you love you too.  If not flowers, treat yourself to something, it can be as small or as large as you like. I know Valentine’s day is supposed to be about romance, but why not romance yourself? You deserve it.

Valentine's Day

Go to Starbucks and buy yourself that Venti Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel. instead of your usual grande with skimmed milk. Go to Godiva and buy yourself the box of treats which contains 4 of their best-selling chocolates, and sit and eat them all at once, or even better, buy yourself 2 of their huge chocolate covered strawberries and eat them at once too.

My point is, Treat Yourself, Love Yourself, make Valentines Day whatever you’d like it to be, and if you choose to ignore Valentines Day altogether, you can sit in front of your TV wearing whatever you like, and watch a few reruns of NCIS or Castle {USA and TNT respectively}… Hey, that’s just fine too!  Just pour yourself a glass of wine, while you’re at it!

Show Your Support No Matter What The Cause…

In Daily Musings on February 12, 2013 at 7:20 pm

Bravelet Bracelet - Pink
I found these elegant little bracelets while going through my Facebook Timeline last week, and thought they were a wonderful idea. Each bracelet is $35 with $10 from each purchase, donated towards your most cherished cause.  I have a friend who is going through breast cancer as we speak; and I thought this would be a lovely way to show my support.

Bravelets have quite a list of extensive colours to choose from, representing most of the various health charities.  Get yours, and show your support for your family member/friend who is going through a really tough time.

There are styles suitable for both men and women. Visit Bravelets here, to  read about how the company got started, it’s a very touching story, and while you’re there, pick up a little something.

Monday Musings…

002 You create

Hi Dahhlings!  Here we are again, another cloudy but beautiful Monday.  Did anyone watch the Grammy’s last night? I won’t go into much detail here, as every blog in the blogosphere is covering it, but did anyone see the Frank Ocean performance “Forest Gump”? What on earth was that? Did he just make that song up as he went along, and then the whistling!!! I rest my case! It was so painful to watch, see for yourself here.

Whitney Houston

Today is one year to the day since Whitney Houston joined God’s choir in the sky.  May her soul be at rest.  One year has really gone by really fast.  Can you remember what you were doing one year ago?

Browsing through my favourite creativity site, Pinterest, I was looking at some street style fashion week photos, this photo of Sai Sankoh grabbed me the most. Love, love the colour of her turban with that very chic dress.

I love this dress by Rachel Roy, very regal.

Cake Collage

Dahhlings… Finally, here are the photos of my birthday lunch at the Ritz in London.  It was one of the most beautiful experiences; which made my birthday absolutely grand and super special.  Thanks to my wonderful sister, Althea, for her elegant taste in choosing such a wonderful establishment, to celebrate this extra special milestone birthday.

You truly have not experienced fine dining until you have experienced the Ritz in London.  The table service is truly a first class and highly synchronized piece of art, orchestrated by the superb and elegantly attired wait staff.  Today’s post will be a photo blog in the true sense of the word… Enjoy!
