Stylish Shaggy Wear…

In Daily Chronicles on October 19, 2015 at 4:48 pm

Style, Fashion, #style, #fashion, jacket, #jacket

October is really and truly here!  This morning it was 35 degrees, but thank goodness it got up to 55.  I’m more of a summer 90 degrees person myself, but I don’t mind this part of autumn, where the air is crisp and the sun is shining brightly.  October is layering month and if you’re looking for something funky to dress up those jeans and your heels, this shaggy cardigan jacket is a must have.

I bought this shaggy jacket a couple of months ago for exactly this time of year, lightweight, stylish but warm and cozy at the same time. I love it because it has a 70’s vibe to it and I love clothing from that era. I purchased this one from eBay where I buy a lot of my things, because I’m sure to find unusual and quirky items, which makes me stand out from the crowd.  I’ve had so many compliments on this jacket, I’m thinking of buying another in black!

Available here.

Countdown To The Target & Neiman Marcus Collaboration…

In Daily Musings on November 19, 2012 at 12:19 pm

Happy Monday Dahhlings, well believe it or not this is Thanksgiving week! Where did the time go?   A moment ago we were simmering to a boil in 100 degree heat, now we’re staring Thanksgiving and Christmas in the face. Did this year fly by or what?  As you’re well aware, this is the official start of the holiday shopping season. What are you treating yourself to?

This brings me to the legendary partnership between Target and Neiman Marcus, which starts December 1, could there not be a better pairing? Two of my favourite stores to say the very least.  For me this is nothing short of BRILLIANT!

This is such a big deal that the purchase quantity is limited to 5 per item {no fighting ladies!}.  With 24 of some of the most leading designers, such as: Derek Lam, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Brian Attwood, Alice+Olivia, the list goes on, this is sure to be one coveted collection.  {and of course they’ll show up on eBay at some astronomical prices}.

Are we going to have another Missoni for Target stampede, which crashed Target’s website for hours?  Stay tuned!

Happy Monday Luvvies, have a Productive, Amazing and an extra Chic Monday.

Book Clutches To Behold…

In Daily Musings on October 10, 2012 at 10:29 am

Do you want everyone to know you’re an elegant book-worm? If you’re like me, you always have a book in your bag {though some prefer Kindles or Nooks, I still prefer paper}; well you can with these beautiful quirky reinterpretations of hardcover literary classics; recreated as book clutches by Parisian designer, Olympia Le-Tan.  Chanel and Kate Spade also have their own versions {I love the Chanel one above}.  For those of us who’ve been around a while, we know this trend is not new.

I remember the Vogue magazine clutches of the 80’s, glossy elongated envelopes created with classic Vogue covers.  I wish I had one now! These unique treasures have lately been seen on the red carpet of various events.  The clutches are retailing between $1120 – $1420. What I do love about the Olympia Le-Tan clutches is that they are lined in beautiful Liberty of London fabric.

It appears the  Olympia Le-Tan clutches, which appeared around 2009 are becoming collectors items, because the more popular titles have become hard to come by, and of course are selling on eBay at ridiculous prices.  If you are DIY inclined (the route I would go!), here is a link by Scibbit which shows you step by step how to create your own book clutch for a fraction of the price. click hereand here’s another tutorial from the Huffington Post; creating a clutch from an actual book. click here

Weekend Wanderings…

In Daily Musings on May 14, 2012 at 9:50 am

Hi fabulous people, I hope you had a beautiful weekend, because I most certainly did, I have minor sunburn to prove it.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous here, 80 degrees, blue skies and sunshine.  My weekend started off fantastic because it was The Great Yard Sale for my neighbourhood; where many homeowners participate in one massive garage sale. I love yard sales, you can find the most amazing items for next to nothing. Seventy one homes participated, where there were lots of goodies to be found everywhere.

I met some really friendly and amazing people while I was out and about, Chereeka was one of them.  When I came across Ms. Diva sitting on her porch with some beautiful items for sale, I just had to stop and take a photo of this beautiful necklace she bought in Pakistan.  Now isn’t this a statement piece or what!

Because of my interest, she went inside her home and brought out this turquoise beauty, which she bought in Istanbul and kindly allowed me to try on; I fell in love instantly because it was perfect with the strapless jumpsuit I was wearing; and no she was not selling any of these. Would you?

I’ve been looking for an old fashion typewriter for display purposes for a while, and luckily I came across this gem and paid all of $7 bucks for it.  It needs cleaning up which I’m more than happy to do, it’s in good condition and still works.  For those of you old enough. do you remember learning to type on a manual or electric typewriter?  I couldn’t use one now to save my life, hence why this is just for show.  I’m so pleased I found this because I’ve searched eBay, and most people were asking ridiculous prices, sometimes up to $300!!! Please!

While going from house to house, I started taking pics of these gorgeous rose bushes, which surrounded a beautiful colonial style home on a corner lot.  While I was taking photos with my trusty iPhone, the grand dame of the house, Ms. Daisy (yes that is her name) came out and asked if I’d like a cutting.  Ms. Daisy came out with her gardening gloves and shears and started telling me the story of her rose bushes and taking care of them.  I was so touched by her kindness, I forgot to take a pic of Ms. Daisy, but here is a photo of one of her many rose bushes and my cutting.

So there you are darlings; a quick take of my weekend.  I picked up some gorgeous things, some of which you will see on my soon to be opened Etsy store and also on www.maylana.com.  I also had dinner at a new restaurant in my neighbourhood called Menomale Pizzeria, where my new friend above and another creative spirit named Nya, who designs jewelry. The three of us had the best pizza made from scratch ever! Watch out for a future post on Nya.  I’ll also write about the restaurant in another post, with the new cupcake store next door, which has also recently popped up.  My neighbourhood is a very happening place.

I’d like to wish you a fabulous. glorious and blessed week.

And remember ladies…

I’m talking about YOU!

Let’s Wiggle…

In Daily Musings on February 26, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Those of you who know me, know that I am a huge Mad Men fan (See my January 17 post); therefore, you already know I watch it mostly for the clothes.  Dressing was an art back then, where women looked truly feminine.  I’ve just received a flyer from Banana Republic who have jumped on the Mad Men wagon and designed a line around the show.  This is their second “Mad Men” collection.  My favourite is the “Joan dress“, which is the cream and bold floral print dresses seen below, I’ve ordered the print.  Remember ladies its bold prints for 2012.  For those of you who watch the show;  you know Joan is a true bombshell, probably a US 10/12 with her red hair and Jessica Rabbit curves to match. The  Joan Holloway character with her sultry style can truly wear a wiggle dress, she’s a woman who would still turn heads today.

The new season starts March 25, on AMC
