Taking A Chic Little Break

In Daily Musings on December 26, 2012 at 9:35 am

BREAK

Well Dahhlings, it’s time for me to take some much-needed, quality time out for myself.  The last 3 months have been hectic, crazy, challenging and a major eye opener.  Life was put in perspective!

The most important thing is, I’ve learned some truly great life lessons, which I know will take me further then I’ve ever been before.  I’ll be back on January 4, where you can expect new and exciting content. Maylana’s Closet is going to another chic level in 2013.  Please stay tuned!!  Jan 5, will be the first anniversary of this blog, and Jan 21 is my birthday!!!  Let the celebrations begin!!

So, for the next few days there may be a couple of random posts, but I intend to fully relish in this much-needed time off. I believe 2013 is going to be a fantastic year, the ground work for which has already been laid, to make it absolutely EXTRAORDINARY!

As you continue to enjoy this holiday season, please remember those less fortunate and try your best to reach out, even if it’s just to say hello or smile. If you can do more, please find it in your heart to do so.

2013 HERE WE COME!!

The Elves Have Been Busy…

In Daily Musings on December 23, 2012 at 7:48 pm

Collage

Hi Dahhlings! It truly has been a very busy last few days, so busy, that I never got a chance to write my last-minute shopping guide among other blog projects.  The collage above should explain why I’ve been MIA! It’s been a pleasant problem to have, I truly enjoy creating elegant items for my customers, and this time of year is especially busy.

I hope you’ve gotten all of your gifts, decorations, delicious food and all the other important goodies for the big day. 2 days to go!!!

If you haven’t gotten your gifts yet {tommorow is Christmas Eve!} I suggest you take yourselves to the nearest supermarket or drug store, and buy some of those well-known gift cards! Itunes, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, anyone?

Chanel Flower Sweater dress

I love love this Chanel floral sweater dress.  I’m not sure if it’s from last season or this one {if you find out, please let me know}, but it’s simply gorgeous!!! This dress truly cheered me up today; Chanel always does 😉

Warning! This post will be a mish mash of thoughts, images and inspiration.

Thought For The Day ~ It’s been a tough long week, decisions had to be made in order for peace of mind to be had.  Always remember to never ever sell yourself short.  There is not enough money on earth for you to sacrifice your self-respect.  Always go with what you are truly feeling. Short changing yourself pays you nothing!

I posted this image, not because of the model {though she is attractive}, but to me it’s a perfect black and white photograph.  Add a Burberry trench, and  a Birkin bag… Classic! For me this photo screams Chic!

Let’s Dance To A New Week…

In Daily Musings on December 3, 2012 at 9:35 am

Let's Dance

Let’s dance because this is a brand new week; new beginnings, new experiences! After an insanely crazy, stressful and mind-blowing week last week, I’m ready to start this week off on a beautiful high and positive note.

I’m really excited about this week, my sister who is in charge of inventory, and who has been procuring some beautiful items in London for the Maylana’s Closet boutique, sent over some gorgeous pieces, which will be appearing in the Blog Shop and on www.etsy.com/shop/maylanascloset.  I am looking forward to showing you what she’s found.  I will be spending most of today photographing and getting ready to  upload, so stay tuned.

Speaking of the Blog Shop, I am finally going to open the boutique, which has been on hold for months; watch out for its grand opening of pre-loved, new and vintage items.  All transactions will be handled securely through PayPal.

To get our day started, here’s one of my favourite songs by David Bowie Let’s Dance to get you in the Monday mood.

It’s December 3, which means we are in full-blown holiday shopping mode, exactly 22 days to go!!  Over the coming weeks, I’ll be posting potential gift ideas, from inexpensive to super extravagant {“Maylana’s Dream List“} What’s on your wish list for the holidays?

Thankful

Yes I am!!

Wishing you a Wonderful, Inspiring and Joyful week… Go for yours!!!

My Target + Neiman Marcus Moment…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on December 1, 2012 at 7:53 am

 carolina Herrera stationary2

Well Dahhlings, it’s finally here! The legendary partnership between Target and Neiman Marcus. What do I think? Well I logged on at 6:30 a.m. this morning looking to be completely wowed and I WASN’T.  Everything just looked a little blah and inexpensive, I was going to use the word cheap, but decided to be nice!  Now before you start screaming, remember this is just my personal opinion.  Yes I know it’s Target (which I love, who doesn’t?), but the collab between them and Liberty of London is still my overall favourite, and nothing has really compared, except the Missoni duvet set, sheets and shower curtain {which I sadly didn’t get}.

The Target website seemed pretty limited, so I’m sure there is so much more in the stores.  I did see some nice things in the lookbook which did not appear online, so again maybe you just have to go to the store.

The only items which caught my eye, were the Carolina Herrera stationary set, the Brian Atwood leather gloves and the Alice + Olivia bike at $499.  Also, I really liked the Tracy Reese blouse and ceramic plates.  I  did order the stationary set for myself and my sister because we both love paper  {I still might order the Tracy Reese plates}.  I thought about the Brian Atwood gloves long and hard, but again, I just wasn’t moved by them.  If they’re still around and I see them in person (which I doubt), and the quality is nice, I might cave in.  If you find items you love in the collection, or just your thoughts about it, let me know.  Visit www.target.com

Happy shopping!

Simply Beautiful!!!

In Daily Musings on November 12, 2012 at 3:54 pm

I thought this was such a stunning photograph, I had to post it!

I hope your Monday has been Inspiring, Productive and that whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it with Passion

And remember…

True beauty is skin deep. Not many people will have the patience or the capacity to see it in you.

Treasure the ones that see your beauty and be patient with the ones that don’t.

TGIF… Really!!!

In Daily Musings on November 9, 2012 at 4:00 pm

It’s been a long stressful week, so, I’ve decided to post some random images with lots of colour; more to cheer me up than anything else; therefore, this post is a little self-indulgent (actually a lot :-)).  Here goes…  The poster above is an image featured by the Urban Forms Gallery, Lodz Poland. I’d love this in my living room… Yes really!!!

I love all the colours involved with this photograph.  Don’t you just love her hand jewelry? I’d love to obtain one of those for myself!!

African glam at it’s best! I want this dress! The only way to go to market!

I’m totally in love with this Zac Posen dress from his 2013 collection

I continue to get asked about this gorgeous wedding dress, which has generated some major bride envy.  Australian shoe queen, Terry Biviano’s mermaid inspired wedding gown, was designed by J’Aton. http://www.jatoncouture.com/ As I’ve said before this dress is simply stunning! See blog post here

“Bayala” by Isabelle Sauvineau Now here’s colour for you.  Absolutely beautiful piece of art (Copyright Isabelle Sauvineau)

Here’s a piece of art titled “Aquar’elle” by Adrien Donot, that really inspires me.  I think it’s the hair, the blackness of it against the rest of her and of course the Vidal Sassoon inspired bob. (Copyright Adrien Donot)

Choreographer, Fatima Robinson, always colourful in her dance.

Although this is not a colour image, the grace with which this child dances in the street, absorbed in his own colourful world, in my eyes makes him graceful and majestic.  He appears totally obsorbed in this one movement; the camera has caught him just right. Love this photo!

And always remember to tell yourself…

Because you are!

I hope these beautiful images brought some much-needed colour to your day; they did for me. I could have posted so much more, but this post would have gone on forever; maybe I’ll post more over the weekend.  I’d love to wish you an Amazing and Inspiring weekend.

Stunningly Green…

In Daily Musings on October 30, 2012 at 5:24 pm

I love, love this  gorgeous, emerald-green Valentino Pre-Spring 2013 gown! I’d love to swan around my living room, like the movie stars of old, wearing this stunning creation!

The Morning After Sandy…

In Daily Musings on October 30, 2012 at 10:43 am

Good morning Dahhlings!  Well Ms. Sandy came through and did her best, leaving destruction in her wake.  She even showed off for me by blowing out the back windows of my home; but I still feel blessed, because a lot of people had much worse damage and, unfortunately, according to news reports, 17 people lost their lives.  I’m thankful for being able to see another day!

I decided to post something quirky and chic instead of a depressing photo of what Sandy accomplished; you’ll see enough of that on the news.  I hope all my followers and everyone else is safe out there, and stay home if you can, because there is still a lot more cleaning up to do.  I’ll be spending most of my day creating blog posts and adding to the Maylana’s Closet accessories and vintage collection.

Look out for a future blog post on my review of a private screening of a wonderful independent movie, titled “A Coward’s Dream“, which I attended on Saturday; I even walked the purple carpet!

Have yourselves a Fabulous, Safe and Amazing day!

Exquisitely Painted Pumpkins…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on October 25, 2012 at 8:35 am

While perusing the ever so addictive Pinterest, I came across this gorgeous painted pumpkin, which was featured in  the October issue of Chatelaine Magazine.

It was the vibrant colours which really caught my eye.  It never once occurred to me to hollow out a pumpkin, then paint it and fill it with flowers. The good thing is, you don’t even have to hollow out {less work!}, you can just paint as is and viola, a beautiful piece of art created by you!

Thanks to Chatelaine Magazine, this is a DIY project I will try in the near future.  Get yourselves some sample size paints at Home Depot or Lowes and paint away to your heart’s content. Who would have thought!! Off to the supermarket I go!
