Wow!!! What a week! This was the longest and shortest week ever! Have you ever had one of those?

I’ve got so much going on; new contract; trying to start and finish up the Maylana’s Closet winter accessory line; coordinate with my sister who is in the middle of creating her own knitwear line, while helping me prepare for the big fashion event I wrote about on Monday click here.  Are there enough hours in the day… Help!!

The above photo is where I’d love to be right about now!

Before I slept for a week, I’d take a long soak in this gorgeous specimen of a tub…

Then top my night off with a cocktail called Dark & StormyClick here for recipe

Wishing you a Fabulous, Amazing and Chic filled weekend!

J. Crew And Jayne’s Ballet…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on September 18, 2012 at 7:41 pm

I’m in love with these ballet flats from J. Crew.  With it’s very lady like, yet edgy, gold chain T-strap. it’s the ideal dainty running around shoe, when heels just won’t do, but you still want to look chic.  Also available in black ~ $198 at J. Crew.

I had to post this shot of Linda Rodin from the J. Crew 2012 fall campaign, who is still fierce at 63 years old!  ~ Stylist turned beauty guru, still modeling, running a successful skin care line for mature women, among other things.  I love this quote from her “You can’t chase youth. You’ll just look older with a face lift.” How true!

This is going to be an extremely busy week, so my posts might be sparse; but I’ll try to send out a few short posts to keep you smiling.  Look out for some great images from New York Fashion week, courtesy of my friends over at Medina=Citi {yes the equal sign is deliberate}.

Do wonderful things with the rest of the week!

Harry And The Rings…

In Daily Musings, New Loves!, Object's of Desire on September 11, 2012 at 6:44 am

I met a lovely young lady recently, who was wearing the most gorgeous ring on a chain around her neck.  The reason said ring is placed there, is because she is 8 months pregnant, and therefore it’s not comfortable to wear at this time.  When I asked her about it, she told me her uncle in law created it for her.  Well… What an absolute treasure this turned out to be.

Who is her uncle? His name is Harry Roa, a fantastic jewelry designer based in Sarasota Florida.  Harry is the designer and owner of Harry Roa Jewelry Design Studio and Gallery {click here}, as well as the OceanLily jewelry boutique which carry his limited editions on Etsy {click here}.

All of his designs are handcrafted using a combination lost wax process and fabrication.  Harry uses Palladium, which is more precious than silver, whiter and lighter than platinum.  Palladium is also a tarnish free metal. He also works with 14K gold.

Each piece of wearable art {and they truly are!} is embellished with quality precious gemstones and diamonds.  Mr. Roa does not produce any molds of any of his pieces; therefore, making each piece a one of a kind. If you’d like to contact Harry in order to commission a special piece, you can contact him via his website.

The ring above is called PS In The Evening ~ That’s the one I have my eye on, it is beyond GORGEOUS!!!

If you do nothing else today, visit Harry’s websites. Each piece is absolutely Stunning!

I just found this Walter Steiger shoe from his 2013 Spring/Summer collection, and all I could say was WOW!

Anyone who knows me, knows I love my high heels, but for some reason these made my feet hurt just looking at them! {Although I do love them and think they’re sexy!}.

Would you wear?

Opelle’s Luxury Bespoke Bags…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on September 4, 2012 at 9:20 am

As per usual, I’m always perusing my favourite site, Etsy and I came across Opelle Creative; based out of Toronto, Canada.  Opelle is the creator of a gorgeous line of handmade leather handbags, which would give the big name designers a run for their money.

I came across the Baby Opelle Botanist Bag, above {$338}, and it was an instant hit with me.  Created from genuine cowhide leather, this beauty is a must have, with its elegant half moon style, huge tasselled leather zipper, and gold tone hardware.

Items are made to order and take approximately 2 weeks to complete.  For a unique handmade handbag, that you won’t see everyone walking around with, it’s worth it!

I’m also loving the Opelle Nautilus Bag in camel ~ $298

Wednesday With A Swirl…

In Daily Musings on August 22, 2012 at 9:37 am

I was a little hesitant to post this image as I have no idea who designed this stunning creation of a dress.  My sister always advises me, to try to post designer information whenever possible.  If anyone knows who the designer is, please let me know.

The fit; the beading, the swirl of the train, with its Pucciesque print {could it be Pucci?} is in a word… Gorgeous!  The print reminds me of the beautiful latte art some baristas are able to create with steaming milk; a skill in itself, which can take years to master.

For me it truly is, Wednesday with a swirl.

 Happy Wednesday Dahhlings!

Has Yours Arrived?

In Daily Musings on August 21, 2012 at 9:32 am

Well my Harper’s Bazaar arrived in the mail yesterday and was not forced into my mail box, but placed nicely on the stairs by Ms. Mail Lady.  I’ve got one more to go (Elle) and then I’ll do my homework to see what trends I’ll incorporate into my wardrobe this season.

I must say the Harper’s Bazaar magazine is less impressive in size then Vogue’s 916 pages; coming in at a wimpy 550 pages, (yes I know Vogue has a gazillion more ads).  I could swear there were more pages in Harper’s last year; although I remember reading somewhere, that all the September issues are 20% bigger this year.   I’ll let it slide though, because Harper’s really is my all time favourite of all the fashion magazines.  What’s yours?

Africa In Technicolour…

In Daily Musings on August 14, 2012 at 10:32 am

While perusing for ideas, I came across these gorgeous images relating to fashion, from the African diaspora.  The colours are simply stunning, which causes the images to simply pop from the page.  I’m totally loving the dress above. This couple looks like they just got married at city hall and are now about to paint the town every colour under the sun.

There are many wonderful designers coming out of the African continent, it’s time they had more of a visual presence throughout the fashion industry.

We need more of these fashions readily available to us here in the States.  If you design gorgeous garments, jewelry and/or accessories, please contact me at lana@maylana.com; I’d love to feature you on this blog.  See my blog post “Where Do You Sika” featuring designs by Phyllis Taylor the owner of Sika Designs, who is of Ghanaian descent and is based in London.  Click here.

Oh Louie… “An Objects of Desire” Posting

In Daily Musings, Object's of Desire on July 30, 2012 at 9:17 am

Happy Monday Dahhlings… I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I had a headache most of Saturday, but perked up again yesterday.

My sister and I have been discussing our upcoming birthdays, and we’re floating a few ideas around.  There will definitely be travel involved; so for my 2nd Objects of Desire posting, I decided that a full set of Louis Vuitton Luggage would be the perfect post, since we’re discussing travel.  Of course, we’d need our own private G5 plane (You can’t fly commercial with luggage like this!).  Louis Vuitton is one of the most timeless and classic luxury brands around.  The company has been in existence since 1854.

Mr. Vuitton was first commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte’s wife as her personal box-maker and packer in 1852.  The signature monogram canvas above, was launched by Louis Vuitton’s son Georges Vuitton in 1896.

For those of you not familiar with my Objects of Desire postings, I started this series about a month ago, to be posted at the end of each month.  It’s my way of expressing to you, all of the extravagant things I would buy if money were no object (Hey a girl can dream can’t she!).  Now… where shall we go?

Wishing you the most amazing, extraordinary and fabulous week.

I’m Loving…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on July 26, 2012 at 9:31 am

These Valentino gold heeled Oxfords; from his F/W 2012 collection.  I discovered them yesterday, and immediately fell in Love.  I’m normally a 4″ heel girl, but I think my tastes are changing and I’m becoming a bit more diverse when it comes to my shoes.  The high shine, on these are stunning, but what gets me more is the gold heel. Wow!

How would I wear: a tuxedo jacket with a low-cut close-fitting blouse (or with nothing underneath, but some strategically placed body tape), with either a pair of tuxedo shorts, a long black evening skirt (with a back split), or pair the tuxedo jacket with some really skinny black ankle length cigarette pants (a la Audrey Hepburn), Prada baroque sunglasses, red lipstick, and a little gold beaded clutch!  In my opinion, Tres Chic and very European!

Another idea, how about a crisp white tailored shirt, tucked into a black full length ball gown skirt with in-seam side pockets and a wide patent leather belt (remember you can thrift all of this!).  At $745 these shoes would take some saving up, but a girl can dream can’t she?

If you’re so inclined click here to buy.  If you think they’re too masculine, always remember ladies, a confident Diva can make anything look feminine!

I love my Prada Baroque Sunglasses ~ Best purchase ever!

Smooches Dahhlings!
