Will I Be Forever 21?

In Daily Musings on April 30, 2012 at 12:12 pm

I’ve never visited the store Forever 21, I always thought it was full of cheaply made teenybopper clothing.  I was pleasantly surprised when a friend asked me to go with her because she was in search of some summer tops and didn’t want to spend a lot of money.  The store I visited in DC was 3 floors of floor to ceiling tops, jeans, dresses, lingerie, practically anything you can think of to throw an outfit together.

You could pretty much put an entire look together for under $100 very easily or go the low-end/high-end route.  I will admit it’s not a store I will visit often, though I’d probably pop back in there for some beach things and cute tops.  Judging by the multitude of young ladies (some not exactly acting like it,but that’s another post all together) Forever 21 is a very popular spot and is in the same league as H&M, I prefer the latter.

The crochet dress would be perfect in the spring over skinny coloured jeans and some high-heeled wedges or worn with a vintage slip underneath in the summer (you could wear same wedges or some flats).  One of the other reasons I bought it; was because I’m in the business of creating crochet items for my boutique, Maylana’s Closet www.maylana.com, and I want to see if I can replicate it at some point.  It’s your basic shell stitch, it’s just a matter of figuring out stitch count, joining etc, but I digress…

I  hope this Monday finds you refreshed and ready for the new week; wishing you a glorious, fabulous and inspired week.

The house of Alexander McQueen continues to reign. Where else can you find engraved platform sandals? These beauties are beyond fabulous. How do you wear them? You put on your most daring dress, then sit demurely with your legs elegantly crossed and admire them, with cocktail in hand! (I’m all for dressing up at home). Do you really want to wear them outside?

I hope you’re having a fabulous Sunday it’s gorgeous outside; do something nice for yourself!

TOM’s Ballet…

In Charities, Daily Musings, New Loves! on April 27, 2012 at 3:03 pm

Update 5/1 – I just found these and I like them too!! Which do you prefer?

Original Post 4/27 ~ Wow… I’m really late posting today, once again I’m  juggling 10,000 things, but it’s been a fantastic and beautiful day.  Here’s today’s post!

I’ve been seeing TOM’s shoes around for some time now, I love the charitable cause they represent.  With every pair of  TOM’s purchased, the company donates a pair to a person in need.  TOM’s was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie who had the idea to design and sell lightweight shoes based on the espadrille.   I hadn’t purchased a pair because I’m not a huge fan of flat espadrilles, but then… TOM’s created these stylish slip ons, the Meridian Leather and Burlap ballet flat!  I absolutely love them, and at $135.00 a pop, they’re an affordable option compared to some others.

See them here: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/page/abtest/product.jsp?itemId=prod143130033&navid=YMALtoproduct

When not wearing 4″ heels (or more), I love to wear my ballet flats for running around doing errands and what not.  I’m glad that TOM’s has finally created a shoe, which I don’t mind wearing, and at the same time I can make a contribution to a worthwhile cause.  There are other beautiful colours and styles available at  http://www.toms.com/, Neiman Marcus and other stores.

Have a fabulous and inspired weekend Dahhlings!!

A Whiff Of Ginger…

In Daily Musings on April 26, 2012 at 12:32 pm

My go to scent for the spring/summer season is Origins Ginger Essence (if you’ve been following my posts, you already know,  I love the Ginger Essence body scrub).  I absolutely love this fragrance and have been using it on and off for years.  What’s interesting is it’s pretty inexpensive and can definitely stand up to some of the other designer fragrances.  In my opinion, you must be a fan of ginger to like this fragrance; which is balanced by bergamot, lemon and lime.  Ginger Essence smells very clean and fresh; and is  light enough for those humid DC summers, without becoming overpowering.  Ginger Essence is also available in an elegant glass tube with a roll top to pop inside your handbag.

To see the entire range of Ginger Essence body products click here: http://origins.com/products/3827/Bath-Body/Star-Collection/Ginger/index.tmpl  Also available at other fine department stores ~  50 ml $41.00/100ml $52.00

Happy Thursday darlings, One more day to go!!

A Cookie For The Fabulous…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on April 25, 2012 at 1:45 pm

I heard about these cookies inspired by the latest Celine “It” bag and had to conduct my own research.  I finally found them on my all time favourite shopping site, Etsy.  Those who know me, know I purchase from Etsy often.  I’m always searching Etsy for that unique item to buy and/or blog about.  I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself if I ordered these cookies!  Do you eat them? Do you have a glass of milk with them? (champagne would be my choice) Do you put them in an airtight glass case and admire them? What do you do?

The owner’s name is Kristie who is based in New York.  Kristie’s cookies are the most beautiful and adorable creations I’ve seen in a while.   These cookies are probably the closet I’m going to get to the lastest Celine handbag right now (though I do own a gorgeous vintage one from the 80’s), so I may as well indulge.

These delicacies are available at Pea Pods Cookies @ http://etsy.com/shop/peapodscookies

Enjoy the rest of your fabulous Hump day!

Girl About Town…

In Daily Musings, Maylana's Dream List, New Loves! on April 24, 2012 at 10:10 am

I was out and about this weekend picking up a few things.  I  had to replace my MAC Studio Fix, I was down to the scrapings (not a good thing) I just haven’t had time to replace it sooner.  Studio fix is my go to product for daily use. If I want more coverage, I apply a little Bobbi Brown stick foundation in Warm Almond underneath and that gives me the complete coverage I’m sometimes looking for.   While I was at it, I picked up my MAC lipstick in Voice with Cork lip liner. I use this combo for a more natural look when I don’t want to go “POW” with the Tom Ford Cherry Lush.  A nude lip works every time.

I took a little wander into the Saks shoe department (why did I do that?) and found these little beauties; I’m just coveting these lettered Louboutins right now!

Then of course there were these beautiful Reed Krakoff sandals.  Everything this man touches turns out gorgeous (look how he turned Coach around!).  His own line of clothing and accessories is simply stunning. I’ll feature Reed Krakoff’s designs in a later post.

On my way out of Saks I came across this little number. Very Missoni inspired in my opinion.  This is a very easy to wear dress; dress it up with high wedges or create a more casual look with thong flat sandals, it all depends upon  you’re mood that day.

I finally saw my Gucci Fiat 500, how I looooove this car! the dude who owned this vehicle, just had it imported from Italy, apparently they have stopped production as it was a limited edition.  He is obviously a Gucci fanatic, because he was in head to toe Gucci, sunglasses,  jewelry, jeans, shoes; hey whatever floats your boat!

So that’s pretty much my wants from head to toe (and car); now to crack open the piggy bank and see what’s in there!

Have a beautiful day… kisses!

A Spot Of Afternoon Colour…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on April 23, 2012 at 2:30 pm

I’m loving this Myne Heidi fuchsia dress. Unfortunately the only decent photo I could find was of KK wearing it (I’m really not about giving KK any promotion, she just wore it best).  The colour is absolutely gorgeous.  I can see myself wearing this hot number while in Miami, having brunch in one of the outdoor restaurants on Lincoln Road.   A woman could definitely get noticed wearing a dress like this. I hope this helps to brighten up this drizzly, damp and cold day.

Available for pre-order at BoutiqueToYou.com – $275.00

It’s Monday Already…

Wow… What a crazy weekend!!! Between creating iPad cases, shopping, a major photo shoot, and generally running around like a crazy person; I did not have time to write today’s post.  All will be well in the next few hours or more likely tomorrow.  In the meantime, I’ll leave you to gasp at the craziest pair of gorgeous yellow suede spiked heeled platforms; which must be at least 6″-7″ in height.  Photo courtesy of Rush Hour Fashions Pinterest shoe board!

No Introduction Neccessary…

In Daily Musings, Maylana's Dream List, New Loves! on April 20, 2012 at 9:42 am

For these exquisite Tom Ford  sandals!  What more can I really say about these, other to drool over 5″ of beautiful heel!  I’ll just let them speak for themselves, while I obsess over the purple ones above.  From Mr. Ford’s  S/S 2012 collection, the only thing to ask yourself is which pair? Remember they’re going to cost you a month’s rent, so choose wisely! 🙂

Available at Tom Ford – 845 Madison Avenue (near 70th Street), New York, NY 10021

Happy Friday Dahhlings!  Have a fabulous, blessed and glorious weekend!!

A Very Vintage Thursday…

In Daily Musings on April 19, 2012 at 12:31 pm

Happy Thursday Daahlings… We’re nearly there! The weekend is just around the corner.

I’m obsessed with vintage photographs from the 40’s thru to the 1970’s, especially magazine covers, album covers and print ads.  I spend a lot of time online, scouring Google Images and other sources looking for these photographs.  There’s just something about them, that you just don’t see today.  Is it the colour?  Is it the layout?  it’s just not the same.  Don’t get me wrong; we have beautiful photography (that’s why I’m addicted to my high-end fashion magazines), there’s just a different way of doing things now.  The look is  completely different.  Do you see the way they used to style the models back then?  To me  they really struck a pose.  Here is a collection of some of my favourites; there’s a lot of them, so I’ll start with a few at a time, as  this will be an ongoing topic for me.

Aren't you just digging those earrings
