TGIF… Really!!!

In Daily Musings on November 9, 2012 at 4:00 pm

It’s been a long stressful week, so, I’ve decided to post some random images with lots of colour; more to cheer me up than anything else; therefore, this post is a little self-indulgent (actually a lot :-)).  Here goes…  The poster above is an image featured by the Urban Forms Gallery, Lodz Poland. I’d love this in my living room… Yes really!!!

I love all the colours involved with this photograph.  Don’t you just love her hand jewelry? I’d love to obtain one of those for myself!!

African glam at it’s best! I want this dress! The only way to go to market!

I’m totally in love with this Zac Posen dress from his 2013 collection

I continue to get asked about this gorgeous wedding dress, which has generated some major bride envy.  Australian shoe queen, Terry Biviano’s mermaid inspired wedding gown, was designed by J’Aton. http://www.jatoncouture.com/ As I’ve said before this dress is simply stunning! See blog post here

“Bayala” by Isabelle Sauvineau Now here’s colour for you.  Absolutely beautiful piece of art (Copyright Isabelle Sauvineau)

Here’s a piece of art titled “Aquar’elle” by Adrien Donot, that really inspires me.  I think it’s the hair, the blackness of it against the rest of her and of course the Vidal Sassoon inspired bob. (Copyright Adrien Donot)

Choreographer, Fatima Robinson, always colourful in her dance.

Although this is not a colour image, the grace with which this child dances in the street, absorbed in his own colourful world, in my eyes makes him graceful and majestic.  He appears totally obsorbed in this one movement; the camera has caught him just right. Love this photo!

And always remember to tell yourself…

Because you are!

I hope these beautiful images brought some much-needed colour to your day; they did for me. I could have posted so much more, but this post would have gone on forever; maybe I’ll post more over the weekend.  I’d love to wish you an Amazing and Inspiring weekend.

The People have spoken…

VOTE!!!!

In Daily Musings on November 6, 2012 at 9:22 am

As a British National residing in the U.S. I am unable to vote.  I pay taxes but can’t vote, something I’ve never understood, but I digress.  As a U.S. Citizen, whether naturalized or born here,  PLEASE exercise your right to vote today.  IT’S IMPORTANT!!!  I know who I’d vote for if I were able to, but since this is not a political blog, I have no interest in debating the issue.

I can’t stress enough how important it is that you do your part today, because whomever your guy may be; if you don’t vote, don’t complain that he didn’t win; your vote could have made the difference.

Have yourselves a fabulous Election day!

Voting never goes out of style!

Falling Elegantly Backwards…

“An extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn is all that we ask in return for dazzling gifts. We borrow an hour one night in April; we pay it back with golden interest five months later.”
—Winston Churchill

Well Daahlings, the winter months are officially here in the United States, and the clocks have gone backwards.  There are a few exceptions; Hawaii, Arizona, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands don’t follow Daylight Saving Time {I think they know something we don’t!}.  I was up bright and early with the birds this morning feeling quite refreshed; but I promise by Tuesday, I’ll be begging for the hour we lost.

Maylana’s Closet would love to wish you an amazing week; I hope it’s Productive, Exciting and full of Love, Light and Passion.

Countess Barbie A La Bob Mackie…

In Daily Musings on October 31, 2012 at 6:33 pm

I’m really not into the Halloween shenanigans, but I couldn’t resist posting Countess Dracula Barbie, created and designed by Mr. Bob Mackie.  Barbie, who is 53 years young is looking rather vampish in one of his spectacular creations.  This was a limited edition doll created last year, which is apparently no longer available, except at exorbitant prices on eBay, and other collector websites.  For those of you who love this sort of thing… Enjoy!

The Beautiful Art Of Letting Go…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on October 31, 2012 at 10:27 am

This beautiful and inspirational poem by Ernest Holmes was posted on my Facebook timeline a few days ago, and it truly moved me; it moved me to the point where I felt I had to share it with you.  This poem beautifully illustrates the art of letting go.  Sometimes you just have to “LET GO” What did you let go of today?

She Let Go

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.

She let go of the fear.  She let go of the judgments.

She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.

She let go of the committee of indecision within her.

She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons.

Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.

She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go.

She let go of all of the memories that held her back.

She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.

She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it.

She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer.

She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper.

She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether she should let go.

She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter.

She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment.

She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened.

There was no applause or congratulations.

No one thanked her or praised her.

No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle.

It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

In the space of letting go, she let it all be.

A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her.

And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

“Everything will change when your desire to move on exceeds your desire to hold on.”  ~ Alan H. Cohen

The Morning After Sandy…

In Daily Musings on October 30, 2012 at 10:43 am

Good morning Dahhlings!  Well Ms. Sandy came through and did her best, leaving destruction in her wake.  She even showed off for me by blowing out the back windows of my home; but I still feel blessed, because a lot of people had much worse damage and, unfortunately, according to news reports, 17 people lost their lives.  I’m thankful for being able to see another day!

I decided to post something quirky and chic instead of a depressing photo of what Sandy accomplished; you’ll see enough of that on the news.  I hope all my followers and everyone else is safe out there, and stay home if you can, because there is still a lot more cleaning up to do.  I’ll be spending most of my day creating blog posts and adding to the Maylana’s Closet accessories and vintage collection.

Look out for a future blog post on my review of a private screening of a wonderful independent movie, titled “A Coward’s Dream“, which I attended on Saturday; I even walked the purple carpet!

Have yourselves a Fabulous, Safe and Amazing day!
