St. Patty’s Style…

In Daily Musings on March 17, 2012 at 11:14 am

Here’s my contribution to St. Patrick’s day.  I found this photo on Pinterest a little while ago and saved it for today, quite appropriate and debonair don’t you think?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Fiat Love…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on March 16, 2012 at 10:47 am

Due to a dental appointment, which turned out to be waaaaay more than I bargained for,  I was MIA yesterday.   I swear the dental profession is one big con, but what are you going to do? Being a Diva with no teeth does not work for me.  Can you imagine being dressed to the nines, then you open your mouth and there is nothing but a black hole!!!   Taking care of my teeth is really important to me and I go every 6 months, so why was I in the dental chair  (my new dentist) for an hour and a half??  I have to say he was really good, but it begs the question of what was my old dentist doing?  Oh well.  After sore gums (which are still sore today), and a dose of Tylenol with Codeine, I’m happy to say my pearly whites are in top form and I will be smiling oh so brightly!!  Here’s yesterday’s post today.

Happy Friday Everyone… Mwah!

As much as I love the Mini Cooper, I’m also in love with the new Fiat 500. The collaboration between Gucci and Fiat of a special edition model has produced a very elegant and fun car, which I am absolutely in love with.   The Italians are totally on point with this cute little vehicle.  The Fiat Lounge (which is the size I like starts at approximately $25,500 and the Gucci edition starts at approximately $28,000. The gas mileage as you can imagine is fantastic!  With gas prices at $4.87 per gallon, how can you go wrong.  I’m not a car person, so I won’t even attempt to go into  specs, under the hood and all that good stuff.  All I know, is it’s low on gas, it’s cute, and I’d be able to park anywhere…  Maybe it’s time to trade in the SUV and get one of these.

Isn't this just the cutest!!!

And here’s  the Mini Cooper convertible… Choices, choices!!

A girly car.

Practice The Power of Positive Thinking

I thought I’d give you a little treat since its hump day and send you a second post.  There is a spiritual and uplifting blog that I follow daily titledPositive Thoughts”.   I follow them via Facebook and Twitter.  If you’re looking for a positive lift each day, this is the place to go.  I love it;  it’s one of the first things I read to help me through my day.  Today I found this little gem of a poem, which I copied from their Facebook page.  Life really can be this simple.

Happy Hump Day!

Refuse to be unhappy; be cheerful instead.

Refuse to let your troubles multiply; just take them one by one.

Refuse to complain about things; learn to improve your surroundings

and create your world the way you believe it should be.

Refuse to dwell on the mistakes or disappointments

that are sometimes a part of life;

instead learn how you can make things better.

Be optimistic.

Be energetic and positive about the things you do,

and always hope for the best.

Believe in yourself at all times and in all aspects of your life.

Before you know it , those wonderful dreams

you have believed in all your life will come true,

and your life will be the happy and successful life

that it was meant to be.

African Trivial Pursuit…

In Daily Musings on March 14, 2012 at 8:34 am

Salif hopes the new game will educate players about the continent.

While listening to my favourite radio station,  NPR yesterday morning, I heard about a woman named Salif Tidiane Ba, who decided to create an African Board game after her young son came home and asked her if it was true that everyone in Africa had AIDS!  Salif had to explain to her son that this was not true.  Salif who hails from Senegal found it truly disturbing that after asking her child’s school why are they not teaching more about the continent of Africa, she was told that it is simply too large and complicated… Isn’t that something!

Salif set out to rectify this mystifying situation and created a board game which has the map of Africa in its center and the game itself is a cross between Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. The game now exists in English, French and Arabic.  Salif is hoping to have the game translated in Spanish and Portuguese as well as other African languages.

A question to the parents among you with young children, do you know what they are teaching your child/children about Africa in school?  Are they just being taught that there is only famine and diseases on that beautiful continent?  Maybe it’s time you found out.

Afro & Bass…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on March 13, 2012 at 9:44 am

Esperanza Spalding‘s new deluxe  album “Radio Music Society” drops next Tuesday on March 20.  This is a 2 disc set (which I will purchase on iTunes or Amazon, as I don’t buy physical cd’s anymore).  I was able to listen to a  preview of the entire album on NPR (see link below).  This album is a  fusion of jazz, pop and soul  music, which showcases jazz musicians in an accessible manner suitable for mainstream radio, it’s a little different from “Esperanza” her second studio album, but brilliant in my opinion.  for me every track stands out on its own. The track “Land Of The Free” is particularly moving in it’s telling of the injustices in America, you have to listen to the lyrics for yourself to understand what I mean.  Each of the 12 songs are accompanied by a series of conceptual short films, which are on the second disc.  For the  iTunes/Amazon fanatic you will receive this as a digital download.

It is actually quite difficult to pick a favourite, as all of the songs on the album have some meaning.  This is not your everyday, empty, saccarine infused album, far from it.    There really isn’t one bad track on here, “Crowned & Kissed “, “Let Her“, “Endangered Species“, “Cinnamon Tree“, “Black Gold“… I could go on here.   This is an album you can just press play and leave it to do the rest.

Esperanza does an excellent interpretation of “I Can’t Help It“, with her beautiful voice, she truly puts her own spin on this classic favourite and does a very good job of it.

The official trailer, watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpDMLPixO8s&feature=player_embedded

You can listen to the album, in its entirety here: http://www.npr.org/2012/03/11/147979893/first-listen-esperanza-spalding-radio-music-society

A Spring Forward Monday…

In Daily Musings on March 12, 2012 at 11:32 am

OK, I know we’re all a little sleep deprived, after losing one hour yesterday, but lets look on the bright side, this means that spring is on its way (March 20th) with summer steaming right behind it.  Are you ready??  As I’ve said before ladies, it’s time to get in shape!

I had a fantastic weekend, I was out and about in beautiful weather, and the blogosphere was brilliantly red with everyone supporting National Women & Girls’ HIV/Awareness Day.  Here I am rocking my red lipstick and t-shirt.  It was a little chilly to rock my red high-heeled stiletto sandals with bare toes, so I went this route instead…  And no, that’s not a bald patch in my hair, I’m bleaching that section blonde, and my hair guy has to go in stages.  Right now this stage is the same colour as my skin tone,  so the shade is not showing up in my pics, just in case you were wondering 😉

I’d like to give a big shout out to my Instagram friends, who showed much support for this worthy cause.  I hope your weekend was as fabulous as mine.  I’ve got a busy day ahead of me, so this is just a short post wishing everyone well and to have a cupcake on me…

Yum!

And while you’re enjoying  your cupcake, always remember to…

Bye for now Dahhlings!!

Are You Rocking Red Today???

In Daily Musings on March 10, 2012 at 8:20 am

As I mentioned on Thursday, today March 10th, is National Women and Girls’ HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The Red Pump Project has asked for all bloggers to blanket the blogosphere red, today, so here I am.  Remember it’s more than a fashion statement, it’s about women demonstrating that awareness is always in style.  Remember every 35 minutes a woman is diagnosed with HIV.  Here’s my own spin, if you don’t own a pair of red pumps, rock your red blouse, belt, handbag, whatever you have in red, lets show support for this very important day.

March 10th - Women & Girls' HIV/AIDS Awareness Day - Rock Yours!!

Will You Be Rocking Your Red Pumps?

In Charities, Daily Musings on March 8, 2012 at 10:17 am

Saturday March 10, is National Women & Girls’ HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  This is a nationwide observance launched by the Office of Women’s Health in the United States to encourage people to take action against the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Those of you who have been following me, will remember that I wrote  a post about “The Red Pump Project” a couple of months ago; highlighting what they do, within my post I said I would remind you closer to the date, Well ladies the time is here.

The Red Pump Project raises awareness about the impact of  HIV/AIDS on women and girls.   Black women represent 66% of  all new diagnoses.  This is a subject of high importance to every single one of us, whether in a committed relationship or not.  We need to take care of ourselves.  Ladies talk to your daughters, talk to your relatives, talk to your friends.  GET TESTED.  Too many of us are dying from what is mostly a preventable disease (there have been cases of tainted blood transfusions, but steps have now been put in place to prevent this, though too late for the father of a good friend of mine).  Please take the time to think before you act.  No amount of pleasure is worth dying for!  Click here for HIV/AIDS 101  http://www.theredpumpproject.org/hivaids-101/

Once again, THINK BEFORE YOU ACT, GET TESTED!!

Are you rocking yours?

Really Seeing Blue…

In Daily Musings on March 6, 2012 at 12:39 pm

A pop of colour.

It took me over four hours to complete this post today, due to computer glitches and all sorts of other gremlins, so the title of my post is very appropriate.  I need a cocktail now.  Here you go…

There are some really gorgeous blues out there right now, from neon, to turquoise, to teal, to azure; there’s a whole Crayola box of blues out there.  I will  be incorporating some form of vivid blue into my own spring/summer wardrobe, you should give one or more of these blues a try too.  Get some colour in your life.

Burberry Leather Trench - I love this entire look. The little red bag just seals it!

If you’re not quite ready to take the leap and commit to a blue polish on your fingernails, how about applying it to your pedicure?  This blue would look stunning peeking out of a pair of high-heeled strappy sandals.
