Countess Barbie A La Bob Mackie…

In Daily Musings on October 31, 2012 at 6:33 pm

I’m really not into the Halloween shenanigans, but I couldn’t resist posting Countess Dracula Barbie, created and designed by Mr. Bob Mackie.  Barbie, who is 53 years young is looking rather vampish in one of his spectacular creations.  This was a limited edition doll created last year, which is apparently no longer available, except at exorbitant prices on eBay, and other collector websites.  For those of you who love this sort of thing… Enjoy!

The Beautiful Art Of Letting Go…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on October 31, 2012 at 10:27 am

This beautiful and inspirational poem by Ernest Holmes was posted on my Facebook timeline a few days ago, and it truly moved me; it moved me to the point where I felt I had to share it with you.  This poem beautifully illustrates the art of letting go.  Sometimes you just have to “LET GO” What did you let go of today?

She Let Go

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.

She let go of the fear.  She let go of the judgments.

She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.

She let go of the committee of indecision within her.

She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons.

Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.

She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go.

She let go of all of the memories that held her back.

She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.

She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it.

She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer.

She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper.

She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether she should let go.

She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter.

She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment.

She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened.

There was no applause or congratulations.

No one thanked her or praised her.

No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle.

It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

In the space of letting go, she let it all be.

A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her.

And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

The Morning After Sandy…

In Daily Musings on October 30, 2012 at 10:43 am

Good morning Dahhlings!  Well Ms. Sandy came through and did her best, leaving destruction in her wake.  She even showed off for me by blowing out the back windows of my home; but I still feel blessed, because a lot of people had much worse damage and, unfortunately, according to news reports, 17 people lost their lives.  I’m thankful for being able to see another day!

I decided to post something quirky and chic instead of a depressing photo of what Sandy accomplished; you’ll see enough of that on the news.  I hope all my followers and everyone else is safe out there, and stay home if you can, because there is still a lot more cleaning up to do.  I’ll be spending most of my day creating blog posts and adding to the Maylana’s Closet accessories and vintage collection.

Look out for a future blog post on my review of a private screening of a wonderful independent movie, titled “A Coward’s Dream“, which I attended on Saturday; I even walked the purple carpet!

Have yourselves a Fabulous, Safe and Amazing day!

Exquisitely Painted Pumpkins…

In Daily Musings, New Loves! on October 25, 2012 at 8:35 am

While perusing the ever so addictive Pinterest, I came across this gorgeous painted pumpkin, which was featured in  the October issue of Chatelaine Magazine.

It was the vibrant colours which really caught my eye.  It never once occurred to me to hollow out a pumpkin, then paint it and fill it with flowers. The good thing is, you don’t even have to hollow out {less work!}, you can just paint as is and viola, a beautiful piece of art created by you!

Thanks to Chatelaine Magazine, this is a DIY project I will try in the near future.  Get yourselves some sample size paints at Home Depot or Lowes and paint away to your heart’s content. Who would have thought!! Off to the supermarket I go!

Autumn Transitions…

In Daily Musings on October 23, 2012 at 12:10 pm

After the extremely hot and humid summer we had {100+ degrees, 20 straight days} I’m actually glad Autumn is finally here, with temperatures ranging between 65 and 75 degrees.  The mornings are now chilly {at least between 35 and 50 degrees} so you now have to dress in layers; but by mid morning/afternoon, its blue skies and gorgeous temperatures.

Here are some of my suggestions for key autumn transition pieces. I know you must have some variation of these looks in your closet.

Monday’s Tête-à-Tête, Pinterest & Other Musings…

In Daily Musings on October 22, 2012 at 12:12 pm

Happy Monday Sweethearts! How was your weekend?  Mine was restful, the weather was gorgeous, and honestly I did not accomplish everything I wanted, but I relaxed, got another cowl started, and had a wonderful and creative exchange of ideas with my sister, as to how we want to expand our entrepreneurial endeavours.

I did not go to the Women Who Rock exhibit at the National Women In The Arts Museum as I mentioned in Friday’s post, but I promise, I will be stopping by soon; so that I can tell you all about it {I’ve got until Jan 6! :-)}

A little artistic amusement for you!

And lastly, I found these gorgeous yellow suede wedges on Pinterest, they have absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I felt they would brighten your Monday {they’ll certainly brighten mine}; plus I LOVE THEM!!  I hope you’ll check out my Pinterest boards, {there are 35 and counting!}.  If you’re a Pinterest addict like I am; follow me, let me know, and I’ll follow you; I’d love to see what you’re up to.  Creativity is what life is all about!!  Click here to see boards

A Tuxedoed Oprah In Harper’s Bazaar…

In Daily Musings on October 16, 2012 at 8:15 am

In my opinion Oprah is looking pretty fierce in this white tuxedo ensemble. Photographed by Terry Richardson for November’s Harper’s Bazaar; Oprah talks about why it was time after 25 years, to leave her infamous talk show, which touched many people’s lives the world over; and move on to create and run OWN {Oprah Winfrey Network} TV cable channel.

The statement I admire from most people’s favourite billionairess, is “When you have reached the peak of a mountaintop, which is where I was with the Oprah show, you have absolutely no worries. I’d been in the right space at the right time, and I’d done that in the best way possible for 25 years. But you have two choices: You can come down from the mountain and spend the rest of your days thinking it was so beautiful there, or you can create a vision, look upward, see the next mountain, and start the climb all over again.”  My question to you is… Which path would you choose?
